Should have gotten a japanese car. They last forever, that is if you want to drive a 4 banger in a boxed body forever.
Montero = Mitsubishi = Japanese.

Nice try though.

wow, I mean just wow. The marketing is strong with some people.

Hmm, if I recall they are backed majorly by the Damiler Chrysler corporation. You can't tell me it's as Japanese as a Honda. Finally, to be Honest I read Monte Carlo.😀

It depends, do you consider Chrysler/Dodge/Jeeps to still be American cars?

There is something to be said for driving around in a late model car though..no worries. Not having to worry if my car is gonna start in the morning is great. Have fun with beaters.

ive never had it not start though, even this morning it was -15 and i havent started it since friday night....popped off with out a hitch 😉

I do see your point, but ill stick with the so called "beaters" and the extra $350 a month to play with in my pocket 😉

Hah...i just thought of something, if you hate the sound of engine knock on your Montero, then don't buy a diesel truck to replace it!😀

Though, to me, a proper truck should sound like a diesel, ala Ford F-250 4x4 Powerstroke Diesel crew cab, Lariat King Ranch edition.

for future reference its a good idea to check your oil at every gas fill up.

noting will ruin a motor faster than low oil pressure/low oil.

so aside from my regular visits to the oil man every 3000 miles, I need to check and possibly add oil every gas stop ?

where is my oil going ? The car man said I had no leak, and that it just "burns up", and that I shouldn't worry about it.

Almost all engines burn a little oil as they get older. Burning a quart between oil changes is pretty common.

Checking your oil every fillup is overkill these days, however checking it, say, once a week is a good idea.

It could be leaking some oil past the rings and burning it.

All these posts and no good advice.Change the oil every 3000 miles.Use the weight shown in your owners manual or use 5w-30 . Dont use syn.oil as it will clean your engine to the point that blow by will occur.If you cant spin a wrench,look for good oil change deals,they will put the veh. on a rack and shoot some grease to every zerk fitting they can see. Not checking your oil level on a weekly basis can cost you a head job or worse.No I'm not trying to be funny to get the heads worked on on your veh. can be more than you want to spend.Throw a rod or spin the main bearing and its over for your motor.(rebuild/replace)I think you are ok in that the tapping went away,thats valve lifters crying for oil.Keep in clean and changed often.
