Gravel creates traction. I live on a newly paved street. Very smooth and very hilly neighborhood. Coat that with ice and snow and FWD is worthless. Many of my neighbors have FWD cars and often times they are unable to leave, while I just go right on through it like it's nothing.

And don't even try to drive a car FWD or RWD in 8+ inches of snow, you'll get stuck right away. I've been stuck in the snow atleast 6 times my life with cars. Never once with my 1337 Infiniti.

yeat MILLIONS do it every year.

I can definitely say that I hate mini van drivers. I almost got T-boned at a light by a mini van, driving by God knows who. They were going about 50 in a 35 zone and BLEW the red light while I was making a left. They didn't even flinch. I wonder how some people got their licenses. I think there should be a sensor in your car that can realize that you're a terrible driver and just turn the car off. :(

The number of moving wheels means squat on ice. The only thing thing that helps in that situation is chains or studded tires.

I'm not a hypocrite because I don't drive my small SUV like minivan drivers drive. Minivans are difficult to whip around corners. I go around corners like it's a sports car. You minivan drivers just puddle along, obeying the speed limit and taking 5 seconds to go around corners.

I'm whipping around corners, weaving through traffic, with no seat belt on, leaned a bit to the center of the car, steering with my index finger, and Morrissey blasting on the radio. Drive like me instead of Ned Flanders and maybe you won't make others hate minivans so much.

I'm a great driver I've never once been in an accident or gotten a ticket and I don't even go "that" fast (because I'm actually scared of getting a ticket). But I don't drive slow enough to PO anyone or take 10 seconds to go around a corner, like most minivan drivers.

Minivan (Dodge Grand Caravan) = best vehicle I've ever had. I don't know what you're talking about with the acceleration - it accelerates quite well, easily passing vehicles when the need arises; without much effort it hits 75mph by the end of any on-ramp in my area. More acceleration than that is unnecessary, (except, quite possibly, to those who need to "compensate.")

As far as needing a minivan? Hell yeah! The thing is a workhorse for us. About every 2 weeks, I haul up to 1000 pounds of animal feed in it. In the fall/winter, I use it to haul coal (anywhere from 1000 to 1200 pounds of coal per trip). We've hauled quite a few farm animals with it - goats, alpacas, llamas, pig (once). It's got plenty of power for hauling our boat (18.5 foot 190hp glastron). We've had dirt bikes in it, 50 landscape timbers once; plywood and wallboard easily fits inside. Sometime in the next week or so, I have to pick up a stove and a dishwasher... they'll both easily fit inside.

So, why a minivan and not a truck? A) It hauls just as much as the average truck. B) 2 kids, plus their friends who we're constantly hauling around C) the load is inside, not outside (like a truck) - if a truck has a cap on it, most usually have less cargo space. D) closer to the ground for loading than a pickup truck.

Disadvantages: can't go off-road to pick up firewood in the woods. Can't simply hose out the bed to wash it. Can't haul things that are tall (freezer/fridge)

I have to say that I'm not a fan of many of the Minivans, especially with my dad driving one. I do believe that they do fit more people and stuff than an SUV, waste less gas, and people generally use them for what they're meant for, hauling a lot of crap around.

The only minivan that i liked was a Mazda MPV that i use to drive around in high school. That thing could haul ass, and you could roll deep if need be.

Anybody feeling guilty about driving a minivan can relax.

I drove a BINGO MINIVAN for 3 years and I loved it. I suffered no permanent damage.

It had plenty of room, plenty of power, comfortable ride and most of all it was free. The company provided the minivan and paid for all expenses. All I had to do was to go repair bingo consoles all over the Maritimes.

YES, I got the occasional dirty look but WHO CARES.

To all minivan hater out here, you don?t know what you are missing.

Please keep the name calling to a minimum.

I could probably get by with an AWD car, and I would like a new Lexus IS, but I don't care to spend the money right now. Infiniti is paid for and I like not having a car payment. Maybe next fall.

You mean your parents paid for the infiniti

I love our Sienna minivan. About half the price of a SUV. Has more room, drives better, and gets better gas mileage. This is our second minivan and won't be the last.

I'm 18 also. I have a '95 dodge minivan because it was free (parents') while my older brother bought a dodge neon, but I've grown to enjoy driving it. I've seen a lot of idiots drive minivans, but I've seen a lot more drive other types of vehicles. I give friends rides to parties, (4-8 people) haul stuff around in general, and even though I don't (yeah, the high center of gravity kind of sucks) whip around corners like the moron JLGatsby, at least I'm in a safe and versatile vehicle.

I hate them because most the people that drive them had a kid or two and went from zipping around in a honda to a minivan. Only they drive the minivan like it was still that smaller car. I always get cut off by minivans.

Mini-vans slightly trail huge SUV's as the vehicle of choice for the worst drivers on the road (clueless housewives & insane delivery drivers) & because of that fact I hate being anywhere near them on the highway.

As for the merits of the mini-van as transportation, most of them compare favorably with large passenger sedans for ride comfort & fuel economy plus if you have to haul somthing like a big-screen TV or 4 kids & groceries they work very well.

No I don't minivans are less agile on the road. They cannot turn corners are quickly.

But if you're talking about the giant Chevy Tahoes, then yes. But not all SUVs are road hogs. However, all minivans are road hogs.

And the people who drive them are suburban morons.

DUHHHH, did you miss the MASSIVE?

I have the same opinion of SUVs...except SUVs have the added benefit of being horribly inefficient, worse at carrying people, and they are much easier to tip over.

You're completely wrong on this. I grew up in upstate NY and the best vehicle I've ever driven in snow was a FWD SAAB. It's all about weight distribution, not which wheels are driven. It's funny, the vehicles I saw in the ditch the most were the front heavy RWD American cars and the 4WD vehicles.

The only time I ever got that SAAB stuck was when I drove it off road in slush and mud (I drove it off road many times BTW). I burried it up to the axles after almost making it out of there. That thing was a tank and would go anywhere...except mud.

BTW-I currently own a 2006 Lexus IS. :p
