Uhh what's the issue? Are you trying to avoid a title page being numbered page 1 or something?

I'm trying to help a friend do the page numbering for their thesis. first four pages are roman numerals, w/ page 1 and 2 not being numbered. the rest of the paper is normal page numbering except chapter title pages need to be numbered bottom center whereas all normal page numbers go top right-aligned.

I put in the section breaks and it just ignores me, or most likely I am doing it wrong. Either way, it's pissing me off.

Once you create the Section Breaks you need to disconnect them by disabling the "Same as Previous" setting. Then each section can have its own page number format/style, or lack thereof, that doesn't flow to the next section automatically.
