Here the scale is 80-85 is an A-, 85-95 is an A, and >95 is an A+. Of course it is damn hard to get an A+ and they don't give out many As either.

That's because you're at a dumbass school. At most real engineering schools, the minimum for an A is 90, sometimes 85, some classes even 80. Good luck with that.

I hate to admit it but Trident's right and you're wrong on this one. Most colleges don't look at percentage for the class at all, they only look at the letter grade the professor reports. The professor can chose how to set up what percent = what letter grade.

To the OP, what does it matter where the grade cutoff is as long as it was known at the start of the class? I had one class where a 50% was an A, but the class average was in the high 30's. Different professors chose to run their classes differently.

Anyways, with the lack of work ethic you show in some of your posts you must either be taking joke classes or going to a terrible school.

Oh well, I'm still going to a rotten school. Teachers pretty much just pass everyone who is enrolled in the class and hand out A's to students who put in any effort. I busted my butt in Bio 101 and didnt learn much but got an A anyhow.
Kids who did almost nothing also got A's. Ticks me off. I hate NoVA.

They shouldn't really do GPA differences between a + or a -. Just go traditional: A-4, B-3, C-2, D-1, F-0.

Trident, if that really is an issue then you need to keep it in perspective. This is small potatoes. Spend less time griping about it and more time studying to get your grade up instead of your GPA. You can either be on the train or off the train, either way it is leaving.

No, not really. In most college courses the professors can make the grade cutoffs where ever they want. As long as their grading policy is clear and known in advance there's no problem at all.

It was somewhere online, but it wasn't very clearly stated in class.

Maybe you should go to a real school? Every school I've ever attended it's been:
A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1...Never any distinction between A and A-. Same thing to me.

Although if that were the case here I might try a little harder...most of my grades tend to be in the 90-92 range, or 80-82 range. If I got an 88 I'd just feel like I should have tried harder to get the A.
