I hate it when people send a .jpg zipped up over email. It's such a pain in the a$$ to have to go through the extra step of uncompressing it. What do you get...a compression of about 0.1%!

compression is based on patterns of information....its very difficult to compress a random pattern of pixels

It's more difficult to compress something that's ALREADY COMPRESSED. There is no reason to ever compress a jpg!!!

receiver having to perform 1 extra step is way better than sender having to perform n-1 extra steps for attaching n pictures

Only if you're the sender.

i'd much rather save just one file then going through and saving 100 individually...

i hate it more when i have a zip of a zip of rar files, that's always great

even if you are the receiver, would you rather get 100 different attachments, or just one?

This was 1 jpg file in the zip file. I think it lowered the file size by about 30,000 bytes (out of about 4.5MB).

I'd be pissed if you sent 100 files through e-mail. Zipped or not.

Are you the same person sending out these 10+MB e-mails in my company? :frown:

Next time I send you some images, I'll send you 100 different e-mails rather than an archive of 100.

Who reads posts anymore? You extract keywords from it and try to post something that flows along to boost post count.

Get with the times. :p

Sonny, I've forgotten more nefs than you've made in your lifetime! Where's my cane? I want to go down to the pond and watch the ducks.

Some places don't let you send/receive .jpg, so zipping them up gets through some of the email filters.

If someone sent you 100+ files in an e-mail, it would probably be because you were expecting them.

What makes it worse is those who email it to persons who don't have a clue as to what to do with a zipped file.:(

I agree with your rant.. but what's worse is when they don't REALLY compress it (save for web or use XP resizer powertoy). I don't want to see a 3MB jpg when the same compressed to 150kb would do.
