I hate Holidays

At least most of the US Holidays could be combined or go away completely. But this is one of four (Memorial, Fourth, Labor and Veterans) that should probably remain untouched.

We just have far too many.

You do know...you're free to not celebrate the holiday...nor to take any paid day off work...you can always refuse the pay.

I was pretty damn happy we added Juneteenth!

I could use more paid days off that are forced! Too bad Columbus & Veterans day did not get more widely adopted!

Too many holidays for what? Support your assertion. You just bitter that other people might be enjoying themselves, and that sticks in your craw because you hate everything? Sod off, Oscar.

Working construction, I generally didn't care for holidays. Most construction jobs don't have any kind of paid time off...no paid holidays, no paid sick leave, no paid vacations. If you don't work, you don't get paid for the day. HOWEVER, if you DO work on a holiday, (depending on the job, union or non-union, etc.) you will USUALLY get paid holiday pay rates. Union rates were either Double time or double and a half time, non-union companies might pay time and a half. (although some will just pay the regular hourly rate)

Would be great assuming they up the hourly salary to compensate. But if they don't, I would be ok with even 4x10. Though my current setup is even better since I work shift work, so it's common for me to get nice stretches of time off like 4-5 days at once. The more 12h shifts I work the more days off I get. I would really hate going back to a 5x8 schedule.

Just found out we have National Native American Day off (9/22). I'll be driving home from a conference that day so I should be getting the following Monday off instead...

I like holidays, they mean presents! I love presents! It was recently Christmas in July, soon it will be Christmas in December!

It's all your point of view. I'm kind of neutral. I have a weekly volunteer gig, being college radio DJ. Currently it's on Mondays, and Monday gets more than its fair share of holidays because observed holidays can't fall on days-off. So, for instance, I worked Labor Day. Like a fellow DJ told me once, "radio has no holidays."

I make it a point to have at least one 3 day weekend every month. Some months that's satisfied by holidays, other times I use PTO to take a Monday off.

Working for an FI, I get some of the rarer ones too like Columbus Day and Juneteenth off, which is really nice.

Once I have my cabin built and decent setup going on at my off grid property I totally want to host a family Christmas in July. It would be cooler to do it on Boxing Day since that's when I have family over at my house but it's kinda impractical to drive there in winter, although it would be beautiful once I do get to a point where that's possible to do.

I used to love Holidays. Now that I have voluntarily removed myself from the work forc get all of our stuff done before the holiday. Then we stay home on the holiday weekend and avoid the crowds.

It is getting excessive. And takes days sometimes weeks to recover i.e. people calling in sick days before and after a holiday resulting in scheduling snags and missed production schedules only to get screwed up again with another approaching "holiday"...
