Suck it up...just hang in until your flesh starts to melt, then jump out the window into the snow, then PROFIT!

8th floor?

hmm, you'd probably need a pretty damn big (10ft?) snow bank to cushion that.

Only because I was already here at the 'puter when it came on. LOL, roommate still in bed. Looks like we're all gonna burn.

you know, i lived on the 8th floor of a college dorm once, and there was a fire 2 doors down from me. i heard the fire alarm (it was late afternoon on a friday) and i had a ton of things i needed to do before the evening so i decided that i would stay indoors (as most people do, since no fires are actually real in college and the fire alarm is abused regularly at all hours). my roommate went out into the hall, and then i heard a big banging shortly thereafter.

"the fire is real. it's on this floor," she says.

"you're full of ....." i respond.

yeah, well, there was a fire, and it was a good thing i left... nothing major was damaged (and nothing in our apartment either), but still, the stench was horrible for the next few weeks.

one saturday morning, at 3am, there was another fire on my floor (the third floor this time) in the quad building (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's a square-shaped building -- the halls attach to the other buildings). it was maybe the fifth or sixth alarm of the semester, and my roommate and i were sick of it, but reminders of the seton hall fire were bothering her, and she said she was going outside in case there was a real fire.

we went outside.

we were joined shortly thereafter with our resident advisor and a number of residents from our floor who said that they were awoken by firemen who were banging on doors in an attempt to evacuate the building since the quad -- and our floor -- was on fire. the alarm in our building (our part of the quad, i suppose you could say) was not active for some odd reason, and the three older buildings had a very faint alarm. they didn't even hear the alarm. that was kind of frightening -- but the fire was not in our immediate building (it was in the building adjacent but attached to us).

that was one scary cold morning.

You can't see them on that side of the building, they'd be around the corner to the right where the exit is.
