I'm sick of hearing people talk about how great their fantasy teams did, I hate hearing people ask what players they should choose for their teams, and I hate how it takes away from what sports is about--that is, competition between two sides, two teams, with one winner emerging--and turn it into a spectacle of statistics.

I would see people watch their favorite teams playing, and either their fantasy star is playing on the team and they don't care about how their team is doing, so long as he gets yards/scores tds..or, their team will be on the end zone, and they have a fantasy WR/RB on their team, and they'll be upset if the QB runs it in or throws it to someone else...or, worse yet if their fantasy guy is on the other team and they still root for them.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't it's very kosher to cheer for a player on an opposing team in any circumstances..or watching a game simply for the idea that one's players will do well.

I have no problem with sports gambling in general, though there is something a bit out of whack when one bets the over/under in a game..particularly the under and root for a defensive minded game..and, I'm as big on stats and numbers as the next guy, but I just don't like how fantasy sports has changed the way people watch sports, and the basic core of it all.

I kind of agree with your thoughts on betting on the over/under. If you're a real man, bet straight up.

I'm in a pick-em league with my wife and other family members. It's given my wife an interest in a game she had previously no interest in whatsoever. If that helps to expose my wife to a game I am passionate about, the better off I am.

Now if I can only get her into gaming with me....

I agree that I find the amount people talk about fantasy sports irksome at times. That said, it's better that these people are essentially playing a strategy game, rather than simply hollering at the TV. That is, if I understand fantasy sports correctly.

I see too much wasted time at work due to fantasy sports. People are managing their players and such while they should be working. And I don't mean casual websurfing. It's disgusting.

I wonder if the majority of people who dislike fantasy sports even like sports. OP excluded.

I like to play fantasy sports out of boredom, although I haven't for a couple of years. However under no circumstances will I start a player on the opposing team, no matter how well they are likely to do. It ruins the sport.

I think it is a good thing as long as you follow that rule, because when I play fantasy sports I become much more interested in games I may have ignored otherwise.

One year i played fantasy baseball (won the championship), basketball (2nd place), and football (2nd place). After that i got tired of it. Theres a group of guys at work that do the fantasy foot ball and thats all they talk about all day is fantasy this and that and it gets really annoying. Personally I'd rather be playing real sports than fantasy. I'm on a flag football team with another group of guys from work.

Fantasy football is the only thing that keeps me somewhat interested in the NFL anymore.

It makes the entire week of football exciting. Do I give 2 sh!ts about a Steelers/Browns game? Not normally, but I have Willie Parker in my FF team and I'd like to see his game.

So what? It's about the money anyways. More viewers, more advertising, and more merchandising all equals more money.

I love sports. But most Fantasy Sports people I know are psychotic about it.
If sports was video gaming, fantasy sports would WoW.

Fantasy is a billion dollar franchise. Just b/c you didn't get LT this year, doesn't mean you have to hate fantasy. I actually won a championship with my QB John Kitna when he was on the bengals.

Thank god someone agrees with me., I thought about making a thread about this in the past.

When I want to talk about what happened in the NFL over the weekend I don't want to hear how your ****** fantasy team did. I hate hearing that you are an Eagles Fan, yet root for TO because he is on your fantasy team. I hate hearing the incessant question of: who should I start?

STFU I don't care about your FFT and FF should die.

I'm done with fantasy football after this year. Why? Because I actually like the game of football.

The great thing about fantasy football is that it keeps me interested in pretty much any NFL game on TV. In any given game there is usually at least one player on a team that could help or hurt me. This has to be one of the greatest boons ever for the NFL.

Ijust don't get the whole concept of Fantasy Sports...Do you guys sit around with your recycled G.I. Joes in team uniforms and play with them? If it's all just fantasy, then I have the winning team, and I won the Super Bowl...Game over...;)

You really shouldn't give a crap what other people do with their time. It's unhealthy.

Wasting time is wasting time... who gives a crap? I suppose we should be spending our free time trying to improve the world.

People could say the same about sports in general; fantasy just makes things more interesting for some people. If you don't want to hear about it, let the person know that. No reason to get irrationally mad about it.

I do think the amount of threads asking for fantasy sports advice is annoying. Correction - fantasy football advice, that's the only sport people seem to ask for help with. If you can't decide which guy to play on your own, you have no business playing fantasy sports.
