use tax (in CA) is pretty lame too.

buy a used car and pay taxes on it. if you didn't have to change the title over, etc. then you could pretty much treat it as a garage sale transaction, ie untaxed. who really calculates use tax at garage sales??

I've paid 2 excise taxes this year. One on the car I traded in, and another $320 one I got in the mail today on the new car. Now I have to file for an abatement on the trade-in. Lame fvcking taxes.

here or somewhere else i read some guy calculated all the taxes he paid on everything throughout the year and roughly 50% of what left his pocket went towards some sort of tax.

no, i pay $50 dollars a year in excise tax, i should only have to pay about 20 bucks but the state says ALL vehicles can be worth no less than $1850 for tax purposes reguardless of age, mileage, or condition.

I think he means he pays the same tax rate as a $1850 vehicle, not $1850 in tax. $1850 in tax alone is nearing property tax rates.

Ok, in that case...

I just completely misread your post. Now I understand. That's still silly, though.
