NGE was cool, but only for the action scenes. If the studio had a bigger budget, then they could've improved the philosophy parts, and without damn still scenes (i.e. the example when Kaoru dies, they freeze the frame for AT LEAST 30 seconds. It is just Unit 01, standing there with Kaoru in his hand, and choral music in the background... for a loooong time.)

I haven't watched the series in a long time, or any anime for that matter, but IIRC the reason why Shinji waits so long before killing him is that he knows he has to kill one of the few people in the world he has been able to befriend...

Elfen Lied FTW!

Don't get me started on that series.
I liked it up until the ending, which left me feeling violated. After all that carnage, bloodspray and violance againts childrend they could have came up with something much much better.

Perhaps CLOSURE!

Meh.

The more I watch EVA (watched the series several times), the more upset I get at it.

IMHO, RahXephon was a MUCH better series, with a much better emotional attachment than EVA. I'm just a sucker for sappiness.

Thats what the End of Evangelion was for closure.

Then where is End of Elfen Leid?

When I first saw Episode 25 and 26 of Eva I had hard feelings towards Anno, after watching the ending of Elfen Lied I wanted violently murder the writers.

And belive me that series gives plenty of ideas. 😀

I liked it. I felt it needed a few revisions on the final episodes and a bit better pacing overall, but it was still very ambitious and interesting.

Most of the other anime mentioned here is not in the same league. The exceptions being Full Metal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop, both of which in my opinion are actually much better.

Champloo was ok. It never really went anywhere until the end. It was very entertaining but failed to captivate me from episode to episode because each was more or less stand-alone.

Naruto is pop entertainment type stuff. Fun and often hilarious but hardly any sort of serious work of fiction.

Trigun / Rax are trash. I can't stand them.

Samurai 7 is good and involves robot mecha things. That's the only other series I can think of that involves mechas that's any good. Unless GITS counts as a mecha series.

Meh.

Full Metal Alchemist was good, but the ending ruined it for me. Sad though.

Cowboy Bebop was awesome. No comment, don't want to spoil the ending.

Trigun/RahXephon were both much better in overall enjoyment for me. They weren't as "deep" as Eva tried to be, but they had a decent story, you could connect to the character's on a much more personal level, and it they didn't try to be something they weren't.

Never saw Samurai 7.

Samurai Champloo was decent. Like you said, for the most part until the end, it was stand-alone. Sure they had a groups here and there where the characters were connected, but not until the end was it really a cohesive storyline.

When you say mecha, do you mean Mech, or do you mean robotics/cyborgs? They're two very different subsets of the anime genre. Mech is your more traditional Gundam Series, while robotics are the series you mention in Samurai 7 and GITS.

Did you see the final movie? It takes places after the 52nd episode, and explains so much...
