Now this is been discussed before but man i just hate some Ebay Sellers.

I was just looking for an item and it has three different main prices for starting bid or buy it now price and each have different shipping prices so in the end they all cost the same.

Example
Item Cost 35$ Shipping 13$ USPS
Item Cost 29$ Shipping 15$ USPS
Item Cost 25$ Shipping 20$ USPS

And its not even UPS or Fedex but USPS.... damn scammers.

shipping prices are deal breakers half the time... move on to the next person with a similar item.

I almost always take a loss on shipping, last thing I sent out was a USB 2.0 CDRW drive, with cables, I charged $5 for USPS Priority shipping (not ground), and it ended up costing me $6.20 because I miscalculated slightly. No big deal to me as I'm not making a profit, merely selling off stuff that I no longer need but is basically in perfect shape.

How are they scamming if they tell you the shipping price up front? They aren't forcing anyone to buy.

Then don't send it f*cking priority.

Seriously, the USPS will get almost anything anywhere in the US in under three days with normal shipping. The bonus, it is dirt cheap. That $6 you spend at a loss to ship your USB drive could have cost less than $2 with normal shipping. Unless the buyer lives on the other end of the US he still get it reasonably fast.

don't buy.

But I do agree that it makes it a bit more difficult to shop and compare for an item on Ebay since you have to compare both the selling price and the every varying ship price.

I just don't buy much from there. Mostly overpriced junk, unless its a collectable or something rare.

I've sold a lot of stuff on there and i absolutely refuse to overcharge on shipping. I even sent a guy money back once because i o/c him shipping by 2 dollars. I wish everyone on there was that way.

yeah. it's a marketing scheme that makes buyers excited about the low cost -- but the seller breaks even by charging high shipping. many buyers don't look at shipping fees and also are scammed that way.

if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Don't buy, and I recommend reporting the auction through the help system.

You've got:

-Free/Super-cheap, where the seller takes a loss. It's nice to find these, but count yourself lucky.
-Good/great, where you pay the exact shipping cost. I never expect this and consider it home-baked goodness
-Reasonable shipping, where the seller can reasonably cover the cost of shipping material(s), travel time, gasoline. Sometimes viewed as high or excessive at a cursory glance, though it's generally justified.
-High, where you can consistently find an actual shipping cost of much less. This is usually a case of "how bad do you want the thing"
-Excessive, where the seller just tacks $10-20 (or higher) on any item, no matter how small. A new PC game with a starting price of $0.01 and a $25 shipping cost? Likely excessive.

Though I'm a firm believer in forcing the buyer to read and understand the auction description, little shipping/handling scams are rampant. Well, not so much scams as simply excessive, technically cheating ebay out of a % of the sale in many cases. At any rate, I'm a big fan of a "clean" auction, or at least one where both sides have their expectations met. Though the shipping cost is often clearly printed, it can still come as a surprise to the buyer down the line. I'll also have a look at the packing/care of an item and consider that in my decision to a) deal with the seller again and/or b) report possible excessive shipping.

That being said, I also get frustrated with buyers who don't realize what reasonable shipping/handling is.

I do the same thing when i sell, sometimes i also take a loss of about a dollar or so when i miscalculate but oh well i sold the item and its gone.

It's hard to report them when they are like high sellers selling multiple items, even the same sellers sometimes have multiple prices and shipping for the same items.

1) you didn't tell us enough info, perhaps this item's shipping is roughly $15, then it seems some are playing the buyer likes a low item cost and others are playing the buyer likes a low shipping cost.

Shipping has been my biggest headache. I ship properly. If I have a spare box I will use it providing it's sufficient. Then you have packing supplies, they can outweigh the cost of a box, etc.

Then you have so many people that think shipping should always be less than the item's cost...I don't understand that at all.

People who buy a lot of stuff always talk about how they have tons of material alway on hand. I buy a lot, but don't have the room to store the stuff. When I used to sell items I kept certain sized boxes and packing materials on hand, tape, labels, etc. Even printing became a real cost.

I have found though more often than not most items will average out to the same price whether the shipping is $25 and the item $50 or vice versa. By putting more of my 'costs' into the shipping I don't get hit as hard by ebay. I try to wrap all my incidentals into that and then keep my item price low as possible and still get a profit. Sometimes with ebay you break even, but at least I am not coming out of pocket for shipping.

When they revised the zones for priority mail I got a ton of west coast buyers. I honored the sales but it cost me about $200...they knew the deal.

I'm not gonna lie, i overcharge on shipping

but as a seller you'd rather sell an item for less and rack on a higher shipping charge rather than sell an item for more w/a lower shipping charge

i'm cheap and don't wanna give ebay a bigger % than i have to

QFT++

I generally ALWAYS charge $8.95 for pretty much any item. That's with tracking and insurance. Yes, USPS CAN insure the item (have you EVER tried to claim something damaged or lost by the USPS, though? LOL - good luck!), but they cannot track it. UPS can. UPS MINIMUM cost to ship something over 1 lb is about $7.00. Tack on shipping supplies (boxes and shipping popcorn are 'spensive), time to pack and deliver packages to drop-off point, etc...seems a fair rate.

Yet, I STILL get people complaining about it! Drives me nuts, I post the shipping in advance - in TWO places, the auction description and the eBay 'shipping price' for checking out - it DOES reflect my honest-to-gods actual cost of shipping, and people complain!

I always love the buy it nower's that pay you the final bid and say just ship under this account.

They always say you can't have a problem, but I have twice.

Got some irate church mom type lady saying I was one of several bilking the company's shipping.

No thanks...contact me first and if I can verify you are reliable I will tell you what non-shipping costs are built in.

I don't understand eBay buyers who rant about shipping from the sellers .. nobody has put a gun to their head making them buy it ...
