Are you really, actually serious?

Thousands of people losing their jobs, potentially their homes, their kids college educations now questionable. The ripple effect of other businesses failing because of their dependency on the those wage earners. All the pain, anguish and misery would make you feel better?

This would be justice in your eyes?

Of course.

Should we bail out every mismanaged and unprofitable business?

Or should we let them fail?

How about the corner porn shop who can't make money now because of the web?

People, the whole point of a free market and capitalism is to compete. If the big three cannot compete, they need to change, or fail.

The main reason there is no innovation in US cars and no new US car maker in decades is because of the big three. They are, and have been for a long time a government endorsed triopoly.

I think it would be exciting to see the new auto companies that pop up in the wake of the big three's demise. Maybe, for the first time in 30+ years, the US can be proud of it's cars.

You're missing the point of his post and my reply. This isn't about loans. He wants them to fail because he "hates" them. My response is geared towards that statement.

It's a car company, it's not like it snuck into your house at night and raped your dog.

Anecdotal data trumps hard statistics every day of the week, at least on ATOY anyway.

Ah. I see.

But his hate isn't making them fail. Mismanagement and the inability to compete is. I was addressing that. :)

Objectively, they should be allowed to fail. As long as they are subsidized by the government, there will be no new car companies in the US and that means no real competition within the US and little innovation.

Oh, I see now. You hate them because other people have had trouble with their cars. Well, that's entirely justified.

You never thought maybe it was your shifty eyed neighbor that did that to your dog. I'm jus saying you know, there are probably better candidates for what happened here.

DODGE RAM CHALLENGE....NEVER BACK DOWN!!

IT'S THE COWBOYS VS. THE CONTRACTORS VS. FIREMEN VS. PEDOPHILES VS. ARMY

seriously though, toyota, nissan, honda, they're talking mainly about quality, warranties, dependability. Dodge has a shitty series of commercials with a horrible aerosmith song in a long line of horrible aerosmith songs.

I'd rather they didn't fail, but it's all their own stupidity, cheapness, greed, and unions that got them where they are.

Well I bought a Toyota based on their "superior" quality and frankly I had less issues with our dodge mini van than the toyota. The dodge went into the shop 1 time in 3 years. The toyota has been in 5 times in less than a year.

The American car companies products have vastly improved, so much so that I believe that their offering are on par with, if not better than the Japanese or other similar mfgers.
The new Dodge Ram is a sweet truck. I've hated the Ram for as long as I can remember, but I checked out the 09 and it is a sweet truck. Dodge may be the bottom of the big 3 but they can at least make a truck. No one outside of the US can design and produce a truck that can match or beat a Chevy or Ford or even a Dodge truck.

As far as cars go, The new Malibu, and some of the Saturns are very nice cars that are way better than the boring and no longer reliable Camry or Accord.
It used to be I saw Ford, Chevy, and Dodge cars broken down on the side of the highway. Now I see Hondas and Toyotas all over the place.
