I hate dentists

Judgement

Diamond Member
Strong words, I know but after all the dentists I've seen its difficult for me not to. Despite the fact that I never have cavities and brush daily... every dentist trys to pin the blame on me for my gums bleeding while I'm there.

Then my defensive nature kicks in and I have to say something smart back like "they never bleed when I brush". This seems to always lead to the response "then you must not be brushing properly". Of course not allowing myself to be outdone, I must come back with something along the lines of "yea that would explain why I don't have any cavities again, right?".

Then I have to explain to them that I feel it was their bimbo cleaning lady who used her metal prod on my gums instead of my teeth that caused the bleeding and I feel she did a piss poor job and needs to be retrained.

In the end I leave with a sore mouth, a piss poor attitude, and a headache because I need to find another new dentist: I can't allow myself to go back to this one.

I never had this problem when I was a child. Maybe they were easier on me because they knew a child would cry and complain... but I have another theory. I think they knew the child would cry and complain so they did their job properly, carefully cleaning the childs teeth. When you get older they just dont fkin give a sh!t and proceed to rape your mouth with their metal fingers of death. Why should they care? You're an adult you should be able to handle it... crying only makes you look like a little b!tch right?

Dentists are supposed to be providing me a service, I'm paying them. I don't need any lip as to how horrible I am at cleaning my back two molars. Yes, advice or recommendations would be nice but most of the time these people are down right nasty. It seems like most of them take it like a personal insult when people show up with less then perfect cleaning. Correct me if I'm wrong but if I could clean as well as they could without all their fancy schooling and tools then they would be out of a fking job because I sure as hell wouldn't be paying someone else to do what I can do myself. They should take some notes from other people who provide services to people, such as waiters. Now if a waiter had come in, given me lip on my eating habits because I was slightly over weight in their opinion and proceeded to give me sh!tty service for the rest of my time in the resturant they sure as hell would be hearing my opinion on their service, so why do people who give dental services feel differently... should they be exempt? I personally don't think so but apparently they do. From the looks I get from them it seems unlikely that they receive much criticism in their line of work.

Am I alone on this? Is my mission to find good service and respectful (aka non-asshole) people to provide me with dental service a waste of time? Are all dentists this way or is my luck just really bad? Am I the only person on this mission?

Ok rant off, thanks for letting me vent :disgust:

My dentist used to be a comedian (I think, weird connection). Either way, he's really damn funny and I actually enjoy going to him (for cleanings and checkups, no cavities yet)

i agree judegement.

but do what Ozzy does. ask for Gas when they clean your teeth.
then it will be a fun trip going to the dentist. If they wont give
it to you find one that will, but they should hook you up if you request.

Thanks for reminding me.. I have to cancel my procedure im having done saturday since im now suffering from bronchitis. woohoo.. saved by a cold.

My dentist hates me "WTF, that's the most disgusting mouth I've ever seen. And yet... Underneath the scuz, it's in immaculate condition." Wanna know why? BECAUSE I DRINK MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF COCA-COLA. Hah. That stuff is guaranteed to kill any living bacteria.

I went to a new dentist this year because the office I used to go to had crappy management, was kinda dirty, and the front desk was rude. The new dentist asked why I changed offices. I told her the reasons. After I dump on the old place for a few minutes, she goes "I own that office too."

hahahaha

My dads a dentist and I'm working at his office for a summer job. I'd like to say that our 3 hygeinists are really nice, and do their job well. If you go to a place where theres like 14 chairs in an open room and untrained poor single mothers doing your teeth maybe that's the problem.
The only complaints our office ever gets is against the office manager, just cuz she asks them to pay money, but she's really nice.

Anyhow, moral of the story. FLOSS YOUR FRIGGEN TEETH. my teeth bleed too, when I go to get a cleaning and sometimes when i floss. Reason? I DONT FLOSS ENOUGH/well enough.

if you want a goddamn flossing lesson you can PM me, but the reason you have no cavities but your gums bleed is because you brush your teeth well enough, but not well enough along the gum line and you dont floss properly or often enough

STUPID DENTIST NOOB BOW DOWN BEFORE ME FOR TIS IN MY GENES.

Yes, you should never trust doctors opinions. You know more about your teeth than a guy who went to school to learn about teeth.

Just because you don't have cavities doesn't mean you are brushing correctly. When you brush, you need to brush your gums too. They can get dirty too, and simply wiping everything off of your teeth onto them isn't a smart thing to do. When you brush your gums, you also make them tougher, and they won't bleed easily if you do this. In turn, this will strengthen the roots of your teeth and improve the gums, making it harder for pieces of stray food to irritate then and slip between then gum and the tooth. If your gums are bleeding, it's not because you do/don't brush your teeth well, it's because they are either dirty, or sensative because they don't get any attention.

The doctor always told me the same thing as he told you. Then I got frustrated too, but then I asked him to show me what I'm doing wrong. I literally told him to bust out the giant teeth and go over the whole thing with me, then we busted out the little pink tablets and I brushed my teeth perfectly. I left quite enlightend. I haven't had a cavity since, and thank god, because I like to refuse the novicane when I do.

I'm not saying I shouldnt listen to what they have to say. I'm saying the way they do it makes me think they're assholes. It always comes out as insulting instead of providing knowledge. I'm sure they're sick of telling people the same thing over over but I don't give a sh!t. I'm paying them to provide me with a service and they can be courtious about it or lose my business.

i just started going to this new dentist. for the first time, a dentist said to me "well, good job. you have very nice teeth."
FIRST TIME! it was then that i realized why id never had a good dentist.

Judgement

You've apparently only been to STUPID dentists.

here is why.

According to my dentist who has never made such a remark, brushing can only clean your teeth to a maximum of 1 mm below the gum line, (makes sense right?), flossing a maximum of 2 mm.

HOWEVER, we have plaque that starts to develop below the 2 mm line HENCE the necessity of a dental cleaning.

SO you go into a dentists office to get a cleaning done, they are removing calcified tartar from 3+ mm BELOW your gum line. They are probing, they are cleaning etc with these metal tools. I GUARANTEE you that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to do a good cleaning job without SOME trauma occuring to the gums.

HENCE 2 possible conclusions:

1. No matter how well we brush we will get plaque below our gum lines and will require a cleaning. this cleaning will be necessity involve trauma to the gums = bleeding.

2. IF we brush well enough we NEVER need a cleaning, in which case the dentist has just talked himself out of a significant source of income to himself.

EITHER way your dentists are morons.
