I've had a cubicle forever and turned down two opportunities to move into a private office. I never have to worry about having to move out.

I have to make fun of my dad who makes 100k a year but he has a cubicle, and I make about 15k but I get my own office, as tiny and as crappy as it is, its still not better then a cubicle.

When I got my first office job my seat was actually part of a shared desk. They were like double cubicles, you sat next to your neighbor with the desk extending and arm to separate you. At first I was like 'WTF?'

But it really worked out because my cubemate was really cool and we would joke around and help each other out. Now I'm in a regular old cubical, and the walls are the worst possible height, low enough that it's easy for people to snoop on you (and annoy you if they stand up while talking on the phone) but high enough that you can't easily see your neighbor. Ugh.

I don't mind high cubicles, like the 5-6ft ones, but one place I worked had half height, so you were basically staring at the person across from you all day. That sucked.

I'm now in like a 2 sided cube (its like a wide U shape and 1 person is in each corner) after being in a job with a corner office for 5 years, and i now realize how much of a waste of space offices are. i honestly have no issues what soever with my current situation, and i like my new job much better than my old one.

it probably helps that there are offices right behind me with windows so i do get a lot of natural light.

ive got a high-walled cube in the corner of the building (windows on two sides, cube walls on the other two). better than the two-person offices we have imo...

my desk is a 7ft by 8ft U shaped monstrosity with a barrier on one side. there are 4 stations in my room, which comprises the "engineering/ design" section for the most part. i really dont mind sharing, i had an office before and i would always fall asleep at around 130 or so from the quiet. i put up the barrier to try to block the loud talking service manager that infiltrated for a while, that fucker couldnt use a phone unless it was on speaker and he was yelling. every. damn. call. i had people on the other end of a phone call ask if there was disgruntled employees yelling in the office many times. i spearheaded the movement to build new office space for the service/ shop managers that was closer to the receiving, stock and had a window to watch their production guys.

from a purely functional aspect, unless you're meeting with people on a regular basis or performing a job that requires privacy or quiet, I never grok'd why you'd waste the office space giving your rank and file private offices.

where I work everyone has there own office. Most even have windows. Unfortunately most windows, mine included just face the hallway, not outdoors. I would hate working in a cubicle after having my own office.

My first full time job, we had desks at a call center. They were shared throughout shifts and rotated pretty often, so not many personal effects were allowed to be brought in. When I upgraded to a cubicle, boy did I feel like I stepped up. It's somewhat humorous to look at "getting your own cubicle" as a "step up."

I'm not being sarcastic.

It's a cubicle, but pretty nice as far as cubicles go.

Yesterday you hated Germans, Poles, and Scandinavians. I guess this is somewhat of an improvement.
