I've had to cover twice this past month for the same woman. The first time, she claimed she had transportation issues--but when a co-worker said he would give her a ride, she wouldn't pick up the phone. It was a snow day and most schools were out in the area, so it was pretty blatant that she just wanted to stay home and watch the kids. So I was the lucky person who got the morning wake up call to come in.

Another instance was this week. She called in yesterday saying she wasn't going to make it in today since her baby had a fever. I was scheduled to take a paid holiday this week. Not anymore! The funny thing is she called in for today at work yesterday. She must be telepathic.

And if that isn't enough, she gets full time benefits and only works 4 days a week, getting Fri, Sat, and Sunday off. The rest of us full-timers have to work 40 hours a week or we lose our benefits. It's such bullsh!t that because she has children, she gets preferrential treatment. Not even our head manager gets a schedule like she does.

I need to quit this job.

I would mention that she has to take care of the kids, but the bitter truth is that it is quite unfair for you.

get out before it gets worse.

They want equal treatment, until it becomes equal responsibility.

It just seems like in at least my workplace, the single men get penalized. Not all women are like this, there are certainly a good amount of responsible female workers in the work force. The ones I have a problem with are the females whos personal problems end up becoming your problem (i.e. Covering shifts). If you want to have children, fine! Just don't make it protrude into my life because you can't handle your personal choices.

I still think that having one stay at home parent should be a legal requirement for being allowed to have kids.

Well in my case, her husband has a higher paying job, so she's always the one who ends up calling in. There have been several other call-ins over the past year. But she gets away with it. You can bet my ass would get reemed out if I called out anywhere near as much as she has.

Two working parents really needs to be illegal. Not just discouraged, ILLEGAL. As in PMITA Prison illegal.

I've read some literature that says that it's actually better for everyone involved (kid and parents) if one parent isn't at home with the kid every day after the baby's about a year old.

Well, when we're no longer taxed out of our ass perhaps more families can afford to have only one working parent.

Oh I do share equal responsibilty with my son. I get up with him every morning, feed him breakfast, change the diaper (even the nuclear waste ones), give him his bath, dress him, comb his hair, brush his teeth, and play with him.

So don't say we men do not share responsibility of taking care of the kids.

Only rich people should have kids. Solves the population problem and the poverty problem in one fell swoop.

My company "caters" to working parents and people caring for parents. I do not mind because eventually almost everyone will be in one of these situations.

it's nice that they do. some companies don't give a rip about family.
