Whats the best way to just backup some files?

I'm ripping all my audio cds, compressing them with MonkeysAudio to play off my harddrive.... and I would also like to burn them all to cdrs so I won't ever have to rip again if my harddrive fails.

I can get ~3 cds on 1 cdr... HOWEVER... click write cd and it bitches about the file names.

#%# I can't get it to burn the files without changing some file names.

Is just zipping htem up and burning a zip the only way?

That adds like 4 minutes to the time it takes to burn a cdr..... 4 making it a big zip, 6 burning.... this doesn't seem right.

Please someone tell me theres a very easy way to have nero not bitch about file names and just burn them and be happy. I don't need windows3.1 or dos to read the disks, I don't even need win95 win98 winnt or win2k or linux or bsd or macos or anything cept windowsXP to read the cd.

AHHHHHHHH

/me is gonna go insane soon.

This is why I never backed up my mp3s....
This is also why I lost ~400 cds I ripped/encoded.

Maybe think about getting a new HD,a nd putting all the files on that. Then disconnect and remove the HD to a safe place.

If I understand you right you need to make back ups of your mp3's. Burn them on a cdr in a data format not music and you will fit approximently 200 files(size will dictate quanity).
I use Adaptec/Roxio and it works well as for the name issue, sometimes if the name is to long mine will want to shorten it.

I have also used Nero and it will work great also. Just burn them in to a data file not a music format. You won't be able to play them in a standard cd player, But you can on your computer. Good luck.:)

Hmm, I think you need to change the thingy(sorry, can't recall what it's called). There are 2 settings: Joliet and ISO(something). One of those make you cds compatible with DOS/Win3.x, the other only compatible with Win9x/2k/XP. Find what I'm talking about in your settings and switch to the other one.

Sorry for being so vague.

yeah, I agree with 4824guy about using a backup hard drive.

When you are finished backing up to it, you can be lazy like me and just take the backup hard drive out of the BIOS bootup, hide the whole bleedin' thing with Drive Image/PM, unplug it from the ide and power cables, or use a USB or firewire harddrive if you want it easily moved to another spot.

I use a combination of all the above.
