A bit over two months ago, I totalled my car (and even posted about it). So anyway, i'm in the market for a car, i'm thinking used since I plan on (hopefully) financing a WRX STi out of college. I found a really nice car at my local honda dealership, a '96 Civic EX Coupe (5-speed), with only 43k miles. When I asked about it, they said it was sold (and then tried selling me a '99 for 13k..hah). I asked them to show me the signed papers for a car and all, and he did -- showed it sold for $5600 on 1/11 :( (a hot deal all in its own). I looked at the Carfax report they gave me for it and it had a clean history. So anyway, yesterday I was doing my daily checking on a few dealer's websites and autotrader.com, when I find the car that had been sold TWO WEEKS AGO (according to them) suddenly popped up on autotrader.com and their website, for $5,495.00 or so...wtf? So i walked out of the computer labs and gave the salesman who was helping me a call, all he kept saying was "it duzzn mattah wut da net sez" ...

Stupid bait & switch tactics...

btw, here's a link to that car (already sold according to those idiots): link

You know, it's quite possible (and very likely) that AutoTrader's website is in error. It's not all that uncommon for AutoTrader to have cars listed even after they have been sold.

Is it still on the lot? If so then talk to the manger, if not don't worry about it, MOVE ON.

Listings on web sites are very often wrong. The data is entered by retards so anything is possible.

The dealership might have an agreement with AutoTrader to list it for a given amount of days, or their inventory is linked to AutoTrader and they simply forget to update it or to inform AutoTrader to update it. No harm done.

Car dealers usually don't update internet listings after they've been sold, because if they've paid for say, 2 weeks of ad space, that's two weeks that ad has people calling their dealership.

Usually takes dealers a week or two to get it off the for sale list online. Theyre usually not in a hurry if its a popular model because people write and come in to inquire about it.

I should add that the internet is an after thought for most sales managers. They're too busy to spend several minutes messing around online every time a car sells. Also, the local newspaper still is king for car ads. That's where most things are still advertised, because almost everybody still looks there.

wasssup: I'd say that was a pretty unsuccessful rant, nobody seems to sympathize with you... :p

So if the dealer doesn't have a car anymore you still want to buy it? Makes sense.
