I just got back from blockbuster and it was a pain in the ass. They have a deal going on where you can rent a new movie and get an older one for free. So I go up there with Planet of the Apes (new) and Episode I (5day). Before I even get to ask them about it I am talking to a retarded kid who is working the register. I am trying to ask him about the deal and he is trying to grab my movies like his life depended on it. Then I ask to talk to someone else with an I.Q. that is more than their age. Episode I is a "5 day rental" but it is still a new release. So I figure OK I will just grab Little Nicky. It probably been out for more than a year and guess what? Still a new release. "all of are real 5-day rentals are in this aisle sir." Then I go looking at the older movies which all suck anyways, I just get Episode I. What a pain in the ass and deception of a bussiness.
I hate Blockbuster.

I've always hated the "New 2 Evening Rental" - it has to be back by tomorrow midnight!!! So to get your "2 Evenings"out of it, you need to rent it one AFTERNOON, and then you have it one evening, and to get the second "evening", you need to "enjoy" it that evening and drive back to BB before midnight!

Some 2 evenings!

Just call the damn thing a one day rental and be done with it!!!

Generally anything on the outside wall is considered a "new release" but lately I've been browsing the outside wall and will come across older movies like The Terminator. New release? I don't think so....

But on another note: how do you think this business idea would fly?

Set up a local video rental store but don't invest too much into the store-front. Instead, invest mostly in a huge database website, advertising, and delivery drivers. Then customers can browse the eniter movie/dvd/games selection on the Internet, place their order and have the movies delivered to their door.

I know I'd make use of this type of video store.

Sounds great to me.. only flaw I see is based on my own experience w/renting from the Video store, is they make 10x the money from the late fees as from the regular rental, if you have drivers then that would cancel out all the late fees.

Wow, that delivery idea is interesting. I don't think it could fly on its own, though. You'd have to attach it to an existing delivery business, like a pizza joint.

That said, I'll stay out of Blockbuster if you can show me another rental chain that carries bad ninja movies. :)

The 2-Evening Rental in my neck o' the woods is a little better. We get the rentals for two full evenings, and they have to be returned by noon on the third day.

My only gripe is that all of their DVD selection is considered New Release. So all those free "Blockbuster Favorites" that they flaunt are only good for crappy VHS! :|

Hadn't thought about that aspect of it. How the movies would be returned would be something of consideration. Customer returns them on their own, or drivers pick them up at scheduled times?

Oh well, I suppose if you had the money to invest in this business venture then that might be an incentive to come up with creative ideas to tacke such problems. But I'm just a guy with a pocket full of ideas and no cash! :(

Don't you understand what they were doing. They were trying to stop you from renting more than one crappy movie in a night, but you just had to keep forcing it. If you wanted a slow painful death, why didn't you cut off your head with scissors. It would have been cheaper and saved you a trip.

My biggest complaint with BlockBuster is the fact that all the hard R rated movies have been edited to soft R's. Hey, if I wanted to watch a made-for-TV movie I'd wait 'til comes out on TV.

I stopped going to them when the movies were costing $5.79 canadian (and I know that's less than $4 US but $6 to a canadian is still worth as much to them as $6 to an american!).
