I... hate... Bellsouth and their crappy DSL

Ok, ever since my roommate and I got Bellsouth DSL this year it has been nothing but problems. Pages refusing to load, slow load times, totally unreliable connection.

Seriously, every day there are times when I just can't use the internet because its way to slow and unreliable. Very annoying.

Couldn't bring up www.google.com just a second ago, so I did a pathping cmd:

Tracing route to www.google.akadns.net [64.233.171.147]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
0 trevor [192.168.0.15]
1 68.208.230.2
2 68.208.230.13
3 205.152.46.50
4 65.83.237.48
5 65.83.236.22

I knew we should've just gone with Cox cable HSI, but noooo my roommate thought it would be easier to get DSL... plus they had "such a good deal...$100 rebates! Woooo!"

SIGH

Once BellSouth finally activated our line (took 3 weeks to fix their problem), we didn't have any serious issues..

See if you can cancel and switch to Cox..are you sure that the problem isn't on your end? Mine wouldn't connect..a reformat fixed it..*shrug*

I'm typing on a Bellsouth DSL connection right now, and I must say that it's not as fast as the Adelphia cable connection I had earlier in the year, but it's been reliable. I have my moments where things go slow, but nothing that lasts longer than an hour or that it completely hampers my surfing.

Cox cable more than doubled my download speed at no extra charge last week so if I said I felt your pain, I'd be lying

argh! so slow all the time!

think there is anything I can do? I know its not my end since the connection is fine for extended periods but then for like an hour or two will just be completely crappy...

i hate bellsouth. i never go to my parents cuz it disconnects every 5 minutes. 🙁

and the IP address isn't static... it is poop

Bellsouth is the crappiest company out there, if only because they charge me through the nose for basic phone service, and there is no alternative. I had hellsouth DSL for a year and it was pretty decent, though the charter cable I have now is far and away better (even though, in actual fact, charter as a company should burn in hell).

Wow, I worship at the BellSouth altar, just for delivering me from the horrible pain and expense of satellite internet. My connection has been rock solid for the 11 months I've had it, and speeds are consistent and "fast enough" (3Mb/s). I *might* consider switching to cable, but, heh, I can't even get cable television because my street is almost a mile long and there are only 4 houses on it (so they won't outlay the expense of wiring it up).

Hmmm, I've had DSL from them for the past 2 years, and the 3.0/284 static plan for almost one of that. I've never had any problems.

I have had Bellsouth DSL for over 3 years. It beats the crap out of Charter Cable around here. My connection has always been great, Charter is hit and miss.

They always say it depends on where you are and it looks more true everyday.

IMHO: Cable>DSL

exact opposite here.

In fact, check out the TOS of the only local cable internet company in Lawrence.

"Sunflower Broadband reserves the right to restrict service to anyone that is deemed to be intentionally or unintentionally adversely affecting Sunflower Broadband or the Sunflower Broadband system. Sunflower Broadband limits bandwidth usage for Basic Residential Internet service to 6 GB per month."

Their unwritten rule is 1 gb/day OR 2 gb/week, OR as you can see above, 6 gb/month.

If you go above or beyond that, you are automatically billed $5.00 per gigabyte. Even if you use 1.01 gb that day, you are billed an additional $5.00 for that part of the extra gb you used.

They changed their TOS to this in the middle of last month and made it retroactive to the beginning of that month. Several people I work with and know immediately switched to SBC DSL.

How big was HL2 via steam and how big are the patches that many game companies release? In fact, how big is just SP1 or SP2 for windows? Yep, they are shooting themselves in the foot.
