I Hate Allergies

I have trees I'm allergic to right outside my Condo. No chance of getting them changed / removed. The anti-histamines I take knock me out. The new stuff doesn't work (celebrex, et al) like Benedryl does. But I'm a zombie....
< going to lay down and fall asleep again.

Me too - I have lived with the curse of being allergic to virtually ALL plant pollen (if it is green and grows - I am probably allergic to it 😉 )

Let's start a special interest group with the ultimate goal of death to all plants and the paving of the entire land mass of Earth! [Evil Overlord Laugh] Muh Ha Ha HAAAA!!!! [/Evil Overlord Laugh]

wtf?celebrex
Of course it doesnt work its for arthritis!!!

Loratadine doesnt work for you?

< well, I have that , too@ 46 ,but I am drugged, I messed up the name of the damn stuff you squirt up your nose, once.....

I am so grateful not to have any pollen allergies because Spring is my favorite time of year. My whole outlook on life changes and I love the explosion of green and warm weather. Too bad my daughter isn't so fortunate and is allergic to a little bit of everything. Even my youngest son has been showing some symptoms this year. 🙁

As I've said in other Allergy threads, thank the heavens I'm not allergic to anything that I know of.

It would kill me. I love spring and the outdoors.

Hey - I do to!!! Someone just forgot the part of the program code in my body that tells the immune system that pollen is not a threat! 🙂 😉

On a serious note -

AlienCraft: I purchased a 3-pack of HEPA filter air purifiers (Hunter Hepatech models) at Sams Club earlier this week for $129. They have made a significant improvement for my son, my wife, and I. We have all sept better and have no "stuffy nose and itchy runny eyes" in the morning now!

We get the pollen really bad here in Atlanta. My allergies were going nuts a couple weeks ago, but ever since I got back from our trip to Vegas 2 weeks ago I've been fine. It's nice that I don't have to take loratadine every day now 🙂.

I developed allergies as an adult. Outdoor allergies aren't too bad. It's the food allergies that get me. Think the worst is being allergic to dairy (not lactose intolerant, allergic). Can't have what measures up to 1 cup of milk in day without breaking out in hives. And if I exercise (get the blood pumping) I get a more severe reaction. I think if I stopped eating all the foods that I'm allergic to I'll be on a diet of water and saltines.

But I sympathize with ya. Anything I take makes me drowsy or tired - yes, even the stuff that is marketed as non-drowsy.

It seems to me that there should be some pretty significant advances in allergy treatment in the comming years.

How hard can it be to turn off the immune responses to the unthreatening things? 😛

Being lactose intollerant is an allergy, and you most likely suffer from it in a more severe form.

Nah. Lactose intolerance is your body not able to process the lactose in dairy products. An allergic reaction is when your body reacts adversely to what you ingest or breath - trouble breathing, itchy/watery eyes, sniffling, sneezing, hives, swelling. I break out in hives from head to toe. And I know I've been pushing things if I start swelling or have trouble breathing.

LOL @ NoThreat comment. I was saying the same thing about "Bad Code" the other day.

I was thinking of just exactly that. Something to run in the room at night. It's at it's worst.... Now If I can keep one eye open, I may try driving...... J/K!!!!

I developed an allergy to Bell Peppers after Colon surgery in 2000. It was wierd, had a bowl of Soup made w/ Red Bell Peppers and broke out in hives about 40 minutes later. Took anti histamines and got better right away.

No, it is not. It may be in Tiqua's case, since he breaks out in hives, but if you say that all people that are lactose intollerant are allergic to lactose, you would be incorrect.

Not surprising, being allergic to red fruits and vegetables isn't unheard of.

Yes, it is.

The USDA, FDA, and EPA have classified all food 'intollerances' as allergies.

Taken from WebMD article.

"Some symptoms of lactose intolerance also occur with a milk allergy, but the two conditions are very different. A milk allergy is a type of food allergy that occurs when the immune system reacts to milk proteins. "

Lactose intolerance is from the inability to breakup lactose in your small intestinse. Milk allergy is your immune system not liking the proteins in milk. Two very different things.

Yeah. An allergy isn't an allergy unless it is an immune response. I am thinking he doesen't know what he's talking about. Either that or what he indeed says about the FDA etc is true, but there must be more to the story. Just because they classify it as an allergy doesen't mean it is technically an allergy.

They changed it because of a lawsuit against Monsanto about 18 months ago. GMO foods contain possible allerginic proteins, and to avoid companies avoiding labeling by classifying 'intollerances' they are all lumped together as allergies.

The legislation started a while back, and is discussed in NOVA's "Harvest of Fear".

It seems to be specific to Bell Peppers, although I will admit to not eating a lot of other peppers in general, due to increased sensitivity to spicy food.
I eat Tomatoes with no problem, in fact tomato sauces don't precipitate heartburn anymore.
Can't think of anymore "Red" foods offhand.
