I had to put my dog to sleep today

Very sorry for your loss, KidViciou$.

My own lab is 10 or 11, nobody knows for sure. He was a stray I adopted as an adult dog and got some shady background on. Seeing some places say labs only live 12 on average is pretty damn scarey for me. I can't imagine him not being here.

Sorry for your loss. Its amazing how pets can really become a part of your family.

I think my wife would need to be hospitalized if our dog died (I'd take it pretty hard too).

sorry it took so long for the response. he was almost 15 years old

i have some pics, i'll have to scan them in and post it. i'm kinda feeling bad that he feels we betrayed him because we let harm come to him by killing him 🙁

there was nothing we could do though, he was in pain. he had cancer, and we found out back in march/april. we started him on chemo and he was better, but then he came out of remission. the doc gave him a stronger dose, but he became REALLY sick. we resolved not to do chemo anymore. as he got better, his lymph nodes started to swell again, so i told my parents to just have a smaller dose done since he seemed to be able to take it, and it would reduce the swelling. he got sick again, but his nodes were reduced.

after that we knew no more chemo at all. then he just went downhill from there 🙁 his face looked like he had the mumps. i can't shake the feeling of betrayal. he wasn't my pet, he was my brother. he was my parents child. he was my baby

you didn't betray him, you gave him the best lifetime a dog could hope for, and a gentle painless passage to the next life

Sorry man, I know the pain. I know it's really cliche, but just console yourself with the knowledge that he isn't hurting anymore.

thank you to all for your sympathy. i guess i just need some time to get over it, i didn't think i would cry, but when it was coming time, and they injected the anesthesia, tears started rolling down my face

i'll be going out tomorrow so i think i'll start to fell better. thanks again, and hte pics will be coming

Fvck dude. When I read the quote below about him being your brother my heart really sank. Don't do that to me! You are talking about a dog aren't you? Dogs only live about 15-20 years max. At least he had a long life with a loving family. While I feel for you for going through that, I would be 1000 times more heartbroken if he was really your brother or your parents child.

there really is no other way to describe him. it would be impossible to love him anymore. my dad was crying a lot becausee of him, and my dad didnt even cry when his dad died

You gave your friend the final gift you could give him, freedom from pain. He's gone to the rainbow bridge now, he's happy and painfree.
