I had to drive a Chevy Malibu for 2 weeks.

Interior is worse than crappy.

Just because you had a bad experience with a single car doesn't mean the entire line of that model sucks.

Oh and it is also VERY safe comapred to most other cars even those with side air bags.

"The Chevrolet Malibu, which also comes with optional side airbags, was rated acceptable.

According to the institute, the Camry, Accord and Malibu performed better because of their side airbags and a strong vehicle compartment."

Are you proposing that his had a different interior, or more engine noise than every other Malibu? It certainly tracks with the experiences I have had with rented Malibus (and most other Chevys, for that matter, and I have driven a LOT of rented or government Chevrolets in recent years). Just awful.

If you're basing your opinion on experience with RENTED cars of ANY make or model, you're a complete moron.

Uhhhh, that reasoning is as well thought out as your recreationally igniting bowls full of gunpowder in the yard.

If a car with 80 miles on it (as did the last Malibu I drove) can't reflect well on a car's manufacturing quality, then nothing can. From what I have seen, newer GMs have made minor strides in terms of interior quality, but they are still a joke compared to Hyundais, much less imports from Japan and Germany. Ford/Lincoln/Mercury also crushes GM in terms of interior fit and finish. I recently drove a mid-90s government-owned Corsica with 20K miles, and it was squeaking and rattling like nothing I have ever seen. Hell, I used to own a 15-YO Accord with 206K miles, and it was night-and-day better than most new GM cars in interior soundness.

The guy who recently took over for head of GM was the same person that brought Crysler back up on it's feet... I think it might be harder to do for GM though because the corporation is less willing to change.

Interesting, The Malibu was one of the very very few domestics that Edmunds liked. Considering they don't much care for any domestics that's high praise from them.

not a malibu story, but at least a GM rental story: my family once rented a Pontiac Grand Prix (probably a 99). Now you'd think given this car's weight and size and V6 that it could handle a family of four and some luggage. nope, suspension was bottoming out like there was no tomorrow, and it was slower than my 4 cylinder accord WAGON with the same people and luggage. we made a trip with even more luggage the next summer in our old Civic, which handled the load just fine, and pulled us up the grapevine on I5 pretty well, too. seats were more comfotable, too.

old 4 cylinder civics and accords > new V6 pontiac

one nice thing about the pontiac was the cigarette lighters worked when the car was off, which was good for cd players and things.
