I had thought microsoft listened a long time ago, but apple never did.

I once wanted to say that Microsoft was too democratic and apple was too monarchistic... Is that a stupid analogy? I abandoned it a while ago because I got sick of companies that abuse ip. However, I realized maybe microsoft doesn't really like ip and that they patent their products so they can still produce them and maybe bill gates did it also because he was an evil genius or because he wanted to make the best of it.

Apple seems more aggressive and monopolies came from the old monarchies, like the ancien regime of France, so I decided to come back to this analogy.

Microsoft cares, even though I think they may have been fooling with my windows 7 setup so maybe I will buy windows 8 but I don't want to buy anymore apple crap unless they finally make a good display and are the first to do it... Even then, I may wait for someone else to make it because I don't like their business practices and the fact that their engineers are working under netansnoyahu and the fact that their CEO may be inspired by Romney ( I realize a lot of CEOs are like that which is part of why I am an anarchist).

I also wonder whether Steve jobs even designed the things he talked about or whether he only half designed them.

Your thoughts?

Thank you: )

If you don't want a company controlling your computer, don't buy proprietary software. Disagreeing with Apple, but buying if they come out with a pretty doodad is ridiculous, especially for something like a "good display". Arguments can be made for some things. If you're a professional engineer, you pretty much need AutoCAD. If you disagree with them, you're virtually using a T-square, and drafting table. You don't /need/ the best display. Good enough is good enough.

For a long time, Microsoft would patent a lot of things, but then never do much with it. Just sort of file it away, and that was it. Then they poached the guy who turned IBM's patent portfolio into a significant revenue stream, and since then Microsoft has been quietly doing the same.

Just as an example, every single memory card sold, be it a USB flash drive or SD card, that uses the FAT filesystem... Microsoft gets a cut of that. They haven't been quite as aggressive about using their patents as a club and then trying to beat the competition over the head with said club however.

So Microsoft isn't exactly without guilt in the whole patent situation we find ourselves in today. Maybe less so than Apple, but if Windows Phone were to suddenly take off in a big way... Who knows.
