So I show up today and all the power at work was down. I work for a University and the whole grid was down until about 8:50am. Not usually a problem because the server room I work in has a large UPS covering it, as well as a backup generator that kicks on after so many minutes. Well....the generator failed. I believe someone disabled it because they're burying the electrical feed to the building and didn't want the generator to kick on and fry someone...I just wish they had told us. It's taken me almost 7 hours to repair all of the systems and get them back up and running. We had a couple of systems that haven't gone down in 4 months. (I run Netware and Linux primarily) So I was stuck fixing replicas and kernels all day. GRRR.
Maybe one day I'll get a job for an electrician outfit and totally ignore the fact that someone would spend $60,000 on a generator...and disable it for them. :|
