I had no idea shutters were so expensive

Looks like blinds will be just fine.

Unless, of course, anyone knows of some quality shutters at a great price.

You could make your own shutters. There's some interesting things you could do that wouldn't be too difficult for someone vaguely familiar with tools. Louvers would be too complicated imo.

What most refer to as Plantation Shutters, use a lot of material for the end product and are quite labor intensive to build.

You can purchase pre-milled louvers, but you still have to figure a system for the pins on the end of each louver.

Thanks but I don't have the tools or the experience necessary to build them myself.

I asked about having four windows done in the house. First estimate was about 4500.

Holy crap I'm in the wrong business. I can find a couple foreigners that can run circles around the best craftsman in town for a twinkie and some peanuts.

In college I just used two garbage bags put together as blinds/shutters.

Then I used duct-tape on one of the corners whenever I wanted the blinds closed.

We just had shutters installed in our master bedroom. It cost us almost $4000 for three windows and a forth arched window. It definitely isn't cheap but they look fantastic and cut out a lot of light and heat.

Exactly my reaction. :)

Second quote was $3500. Two of the windows have arches, so I expected those to cost more. I was hopeful to get all four for under $2000. No luck.

First of all you are talking about blinds, not shutters. Shutters go on the exterior of your home.

Yeah, the arches are the bulk of the cost. If you want blinds for the arches, there's no way around it. They are very custom and as you know very expensive.

Better know what you're talking about before you post something with that kind of sass:

Interior shutters are a thing, and are not blinds. Two different products, both for interiors.

Shutters can go on the exterior of your home but they are also used frequently on the interior instead of window shades, blinds or curtains. And they are still called shutters.

There's a nun joke that fits this thread but it's too stupid to bother typing out. Google it.

I was thinking Italian Villa when you said shutters. They come down and cover the outside of your windows kind of like a garage door.
