Alright so i was working with a friends psu he gave me for free (he told me it didn't work a loooong time ago but i forgot lol)

It didnt work and i heard a weird noise coming from it so i decided to open it up. There seemed to be a blown capacitor... Lets just say natural selection doesn't like me very much so i deemed it a good decision that i should "touch" this blown capacitor.

So i reached into this plugged in PSU and touched the busted cap. Nothing interesting......... OW SON A B i touched something metal, arm was tingly for like a minute or two

I just thought id share so everyone can laugh at me and so other curious kittens like me will get drawn into everyone else saying: DONT TOUCH THE PSU, and curiosity will always get the best of people like me, and touch it:eek:

Yeah I laugh at you :p

But i did the same thing once. I thought it was a good idea to reach in with tweezers and pick out a dust bunny laying on the board, but there was a coil there....OUCH.

Even when unplugged, there is still some danger if you don't know what you're doing.

Even when you DO know what you're doing, it can still surprise you.

<--- got nailed by 260V+ DC from the primary caps on a PSU recently

Beware the filter caps..they store lots of charge. I've worked on CRT monitors before, as well as high wattage guitar amps...you really need to know what not to touch. Some filter caps can kill.

basically, if you don't know what you're messing with, then just leave it alone. I think I still just got lucky not killing myself a few times :)

We had a few caps similar to this one hanging around the electronics shop in high school. I always wondered what would happen if...

Only 15 V rating. You might feel a little tingle.

But dang, it sure stores enough.
