I had a statistics class in High School last year

...where we did not get taught any formulas or how to do the stuff by hand. All the teacher did was tell us how to navigate our graphing calculators, which were pretty much required for the course, and use the statistics functions. Is this exclusive to only my high-school or teacher, or do most statistics classes (this was an introductory course) not require anyone to know how to do actual mathematical calculations?

I have no idea how standard deviation or z-scores are calculated, but I ended up with an A in the course. To me, that seems odd.

so did i
probably the most useless class i have taken yet

sophmore year 99 avg both semesters
and i took a sorta stat review test this week in precal and failed it 😀 still got a 5 on the ap test last summer though

I was a math major in college. It seems like there were some general freshmen level courses that were pretty much as you described. I think the courses were designed with business majors in mind.

I found stats to be more about concepts than learning how to make a lot of computations.

In the business world, people need to learn what a mean, median, standard deviation mean, how to calculate them, how numbers are distributed, how to account for outliers, etc... I've had to use all these concepts in one way or another (MS Excel FTW), and am glad I had stats class.

I had one last semester. No formula sheet for the final, and all the questions required formulas. I hated that course.

I took stats last semester at the college level. The class sucked, it either required charts (which no one in their right mind would carry around) or a calculator (which you would just plug and chug).
