I had a problem with the parts guy from my local Mazda dealer.

I lost my drain cock for a radiator for my 2000 MPV trying to change my radiator coolant. On the morning of June 26 thursday, I was at my local Mazda dealer ordering the part. I was asked to spend $10 extra for overnight shipping to get the part to me on the 27th which is a Friday. I paid the extra $$ and was warned that it might take a weekend, so there was no guarantee. I left my cell and ph. no asking the parts guy that I needed the part twice because I wanted to take the car to Canada from San Francisco. I was assured that I would be notified right away since I was taking a long trip. I never received the call so we had to take our trip in my wife's Mitsubishi Lancer with our two kids. Talk about being a little cramp!

Fast forward to yesterday, I went to pick up the part yesterday morning and asked when did the part arrived?? I was told that it was June 27th - the following day! I was steaming for the rest of the day and just got a ph. call from the parts manager this morning calling to follow up after I sent a nasty email message to Mazda.

These people wanted to reimbursed me the extra $$ for the overnight charges and I said to keep it. I just told that that a lot of Mazda owner's are going to hear about how I was treated - like sh*t!

I run a Mobile A/C Business and the only dealership to ever call me was a Honda dealership. And they continue to get all of my Honda part orders because of this.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

A drain cock is the drain valve for the radiator.

Hmmm, that is kinda BS. Charging you ten bucks with no guarantee is just dumb. When I was doing purchasing at a multi-line bike dealership, if you needed something in a hurry, I could look at the clock and tell you how fast you could get it and how much it would cost. Even if there were variables like warehouses in different parts of the country, as soon as the order was placed with the OEM, I could tell you when it would be there (barring a screw-up at the warehouse or the shipper). And if they said they were going to call, they should have called.

But I have to ask, why didn't you just call them on Friday?

You know, the business was offering an apology and trying to make things right with you by refunding your money.

You refused.

I, for one, wish more companies would follow suit.

Granted, they should have called you when the part came in. But they did try to set things right again after admitting they goofed. Everyone makes mistakes, at least these guys were willing to admit that and offer restitution.

If I were the Mazda dealer, I wouldn't want your business after a fracas like this.

That too. A simple mistake on their part, and they tried to make it right. You want to rake them over the coals for that?

A petcock is a lever on your fuel line to toggle between main gas tank, reserve, and complete fuel cutoff.

Edit: I agree with the masses. The dealership offered you a shipping refund in good faith, and you refused. What a bunch of jerks!

Mistakes do happen, they did offer you a refund. You weren't expecting sexual favors for the mistake I hope :D

If he doesn't agree that the attempt to make it right went far enough he is well within his rights to tell them to shove it. Frankly I agree with him. The $10 extra for shipping is nothing. They didn't bother to call him like they promissed, frankly I think they should refund all the shipping AND give him a 50% off on the part. By failing to make it right to the customers satisfaction they have angred a customer.

Nah, that's horseshit. They charged him $10 so he would have it on Friday, he didn't get it on Friday b/c they didn't call, they give him the $10 bucks back, simple as that. There could be some money knocked off the part, but Kaieye doesn't mention asking for anything else, soooo...

It is not about ten bucks anymore. It is now about letting a lot of new prospective Mazda owner know what to possibly expect out of Mazda especially here in San Francisco. Now to cut and paste and let thousand's of others here locally understand what happen to me. And yes, I am a sh*t disturber after what happened to me.

What the hell kind of dealership doesn't have a simple part like that in stock? Or charges you extra for shipping overnight?

I've always had parts delivered overnight by default, for free. But usually, most stuff is in stock, and often I get volume discuonts on singl parts cause the guy behind the counter thinks the normal price is too much.

Of course, all my experiences are with crappy domestic dealers, and not Mazda

That's one thing I dislike about non-domestic makes. With Chevy or Ford, just go down to your local parts store and you can get just about anything. With non-domestic, you often have to go to the dealer for the smallest part. Sometimes you have to buy the whole assembly for $100, not just some $2 part.
