It's like a poor mans traditional quad Belgium. Basically a St. Bernadus ABT at half the price.

I think I paid about $4.25 for a 25oz bottle. It doesn't have the foamy head of a true Belgium...but that's not a bad thing. Heavy on the sugar, but pretty damn good.

The Mephistopheles was unlike anything I've ever had. But at $7 for a 12oz bottle it's not something I'll be having very often

I think I forget what beer tastes like. I haven't had a beer in, oh, over 2 years. Damn genetic disease I have: can't eat gluten or I'll get sick; this means no barley or wheat-based beer for me.

Oh well, there's always high-brow wine.

I've tried 5 or 6 of the Averys and was not overly impressed. The flavors and aromas are lacking and other than the superhigh alcohol content they don't seperate themselves from other microbrews. The Maharajah was a pretty decent pale ale, but almost every line has a good pale ale. Avery is a long way behind Rogue.

Rogue has gotten pretty proud of themselves and priced their stuff out of the Atmosphere. I'm a die hard fan of the Chocolate Stout but it just gets more and more and more expensive. Plus it's impossible to find.

The Mocha porter that I can regularly find just isn't the same.

I dunno... Avery Hog Heaven is one of my favorite beers.

Death probably crosses the minds of many newly diagnosed Celiacs (depression is rather common) but like any loss you have to take stock of the situation and move on.
