I had a bad experience with Auto Zone last night. RE: return policy.

So last night i go to Autozone to take back a thermostat(sealed in box printed with the autozone logo) and 2 wipers. This was supposed to go on my girlfriends car, but i said forget it, i'll just sell it. Anyways, i take it back without a receipt, since the stuff obviously came from autozone since it still had the price tags and the emblems on the upopened merchandise. I planned on getting some polish, wipers for my car, a clay bar and some touchup paint.

I take the stuff i was returning to the cashier, who prompty says "no returns or exchanges without a receipt." That shocked me alittle. I have never heard of a store not accepted upopened, updamaged products for an exchange. Especially since they obviously came from autozone. I went back and forth with the guy until he finally gave in, seeing as how i wasnt leaving without polish, paint, and a clay bar.

This all took about 15 minutes and i left with a bad image of Aautozone, and i do not plan on ever going back. I am also going to write a letter to Autozone's headquarters. I just cant believe return policies have become so strict as to not take exchanges. I worked at Sam Goody's and we used to take CDs back that came form other stores.

oh well.

That's especially true of auto parts stores - you could purchase something at one store and return it at Autozone (who has a higher price) to get some extra $$ on the side. And lots of places do not take stuff back with receipt, for credit or just an exchange: Best Buy, Target, etc..

you are wrong on target, i know for a fact that they will return OPENED items without a receipt, we did no more than a month ago. I have never returned something to best buy, so i dont know about them.

treating every customer like a thief is not good business practice
Neither is letting yourself be taken advantage of. It's funny how your experience has turned into "treating every customer like a thief ".
Their return policy is clearly stated in the store. You talked them out of it and got what you wanted, you should be happy.

Like i said, i worked in retail before and we were told that the company still gets money for damaged or returned goods, because the supplier reimburses them for the damages.

I think it is sad that our society has come down to this. Such is life, though.

I hate autozone, there are two auto parts stores in my small town, Autozone and Checker. I will not step a foot in the autozone.

I'm the opposite.

I LOVE Autozone. :)

Unfortunately they don't have my NGK spark plugs. I have to go to NAPA for that.

You are wrong on Target:

Target Return Policy

What is the Target store return or exchange policy?

A receipt dated within 90 days is required for all returns and exchanges.

Having trouble finding your receipt? Target can now look up and find most of your purchases made by credit card, debit card, gift card and check within the last 90 days. Just stop by our Guest Service area and have your original method of payment with you, as well as your I.D.

Giving a gift? Target can also print a Gift Receipt for you. Just ask the cashier for a Gift Receipt when you're checking out.

All returns and exchanges must be new, unused and contain all original packaging and accessories. Some items cannot be returned if opened, including music, movies, video games, software and collectibles. Some items are subject to a 15% restocking fee, including camcorders, digital cameras, portable DVD and portable electronics. Other restrictions may apply.

Holiday and seasonal merchandise on clearance at the time of the return will be refunded at the clearance price. Current seasonal merchandise includes Christmas trees and holiday lights.

Any purchase made by check may be refunded as a merchandise voucher.

All other returns or exchanges - including those without a receipt - will be offered manufacturers' warranty and repair assistance at 1-800-303-0308.

Their old policy dating before 11/01/01 would let you return stuff without a receipt, but because people kept abusing the system they implemented a new system requiring receipts on all returns. You got lucky when you returned whatever without a receipt. I have about 8 Target receipts in my wallet right now that states on the back a receipt is required for all returns/exchanges.

Ever think you're overreacting? I mean, since when is a company's return policy a sign of our society's decline?

Get over it. This should be the least of your fuggin' worries. I can't belive the decline in people where they have to search for meaningless things to whine and complain about.

An autozone was built about a half mile from my house about 3-4 years ago and it's been great. They are always the best. Checker always makes me wait for like 20 minutes to check out.

i'm sorry, i dont have massive issues unlike you, which is quite obvious. Obviously i can take care of myself, rather than let it all build up. Apparently you need to stop worrying so much. Whats the matter, did mommy not hug you enough as a baby?

What the hell does any of that have to do with what I said? You're whining about an auto parts store return policy using it as an indication of the decline of society. I'm the one with issues?

Also, let what build up? And worrying about what? You don't know me from anyone. I merely commented on how trivial this post is.
