Funny, that NOT one post about it here ... no speculation... No excitement ...

Tho I can see why. The pixel line up has not been very eventful, always seems like there is nothing new, except old hardware that looks terrible... Granted you always get updates, and the camera always seem to be better for these phones since they are optimised by the OS to take the better shot.

I guess I should wait it out, but, highly unlikely I will be buying one, since. I hear the price is going to be close to a 1000 dollars.... I guess we'll see.

I figured I'm in no rush to upgrade. So, might as well see what's floating down the river first. Never know, maybe google will surprise us with a phone cheaper then the Pixel 3.

I'm tired of the notch on my 3XL. I love the camera the most. My 3XL performed like ass until the Android 10 update.

Would like to upgrade but it's not enticing enough. Leaks show the 4 xl will be $899 and I bet if I want 128gb variant it will be 999+ tax..same price I paid for the 3XL.

As much as I'm used to upgrading every year, this time I'm looking at the one plus 7 pro. I would go iPhone but I'd want the pro max and at that point your paying $1k anyway.

Pre-ordered the 4(regular). Coming from a 2XL/3a. Looking forward to the camera. Going to miss the fingerprint reader as I will be turning off the facial recognition.

I got the 4XL this time in white which I think looks weird but different. If I don't think it's decent enough compared to my 3XL, I'll send it back to them.

Didn't take long for you to change your mind. I look forward to your review. I was going to order one, but they only want to give me $135 for my Note 8.

Oh I know. The problem is Google store financing with 0% interest so I end up paying it off on my own terms. I'm also a sucker for stock Android and monthly updates.

Face unlock is supposed to be faster than Apple's due to the radar chip. The only thing I'm not too happy about is the price comparison to the apple 11 pro max.

Face unlock on the iPhone is just about instant. Good for Google if they can compete. I was going to jump on that 0%, but I thought they would give me at least 200 for my Note8.
I'll watch this thread to see if it changes my mind.

Did anyone see if they actually ever had any of the 128Gb orange XL ones in stock? I was going to order one but they were all out of stock by the time I looked, trying to decide if I want to wait or try out a white one. I was kind of on the fence about trying a Note 10 plus or maybe even an iPhone 11 now that Fi officially supports them, but I've had a good experience with my Pixel phones so I'm leaning towards the 4XL. I just wish google would give you a bit more hardware for the money, mainly in the RAM and battery department, but in reality that hasn't really been an issue for me in normal use.

I was pondering getting a Pixel 4 when it looked like Google would never add wireless android auto capability to my Note 8. Since they just did, I think I'll hang onto it for the time being (as long as it keeps getting security updates.)

And 128gb of non expandable storage would have been a bit of a PITA. I don't know why they always seem to lag in the storage department.

They did, I kept refreshing the store page. It took like 5 minutes after the event ended for them to make the push out to the site where you could select the phones. But they didn't last long, seems it's a popular color.

I agree with you, they should offer a bit more in hardware, 8gb ram option and they should have used an 855 + chip too.

I'm curious how this 4XL will perform. My 3XL, memory wise ran like dog crap until Android 10 was released. Apps would close on their own, some jitterness every now and then too...battery drain. My 2XL performed better now that I think about it.

Watch, next year they will again copy apple and put in bigger batteries. The 90hz screen worries me even on the XL variant. It should have at least a 4000mah battery. That soli chip I have a feeling is going to become a battery drainer over time.

Because of this I was considering the 11 Pro Max for once in like 7 years since I've had an apple product. But again I don't think I would get used to the eco system, no USB C, and generally no customization options. But iPhones work and perform wonderfully if you don't care about any of that.

At one point they will I just hope they don't do what apple did and offer 64gb then 256gb with no 128gb option. I'm fine with 128gb even though I only use about 30-40% in total storage usage according to my phone. I'd hate to have to pay for 256 just because it's the only higher option.

I'm always hyped for the Google event, more so this year than any, but in my opinion, they don't look strong enough for the price point. I've owned both the nexus 5 and 6p and they've clearly been my best phones till date. I've always looked at price to performance /features ratio for phones and was always happy with Google, well, until the pixel line.
The pixel 4 presentation very conveniently dropped any talk of the battery. Why or for what reason they missed that is a serious head scratcher. And that 90hz display is going to wreak havoc on the 2800mah battery. Even the oneplus 7t has problems with a 3800mah battery. I'd be seriously surprised if the phone last one full day on 90hz continuous usage. They don't even include headphones now? At that cost, shouldn't they be adding headphones? Really surprising. Plus, why is 128 gb storage the maximum available option? Are you telling me that ik supposed to spend a 1000 dollars on a phone that doesn't even have a 256gb option?

I was really looking forward to this event so that I could go ahead and buy the pixel 4 and a watch, if they released it. I would've bought the phone even if it was remotely value for money. This, I'm sorry is a simple and straightforward no.
Just my 2 cents.

To me high up on the list for me are the battery, camera lens, memory.

Is it really too much to ask for a phone that cost a 1000 bucks to have a large battery, assortment of lens and some storage memory?

I don't know how they F'ed it up again....... Maybe they should hire out OnePlus since for some reason they can offer

12 Gig of RAM / 128 Storage, 3 camera setup with zoom and ultra wide, 90 hz, and a nice size battery of 4000ah... way better specs than the pixel 4 for a lot cheaper. To be honest, if google just scrapped the 4 and bought OnePlus, and offered it for 999, I'd buy it if they gave the same software updates.

They are just stubborn, after all they are software engineers mostly and not known for being a hardware company. They try too hard to copy apple.

Honestly the one plus 7 pro should have been what Google created but with stock Android. That's what I expected of them when I heard they were doing the pixel line.

I had the first one plus phone and had a bad experience with it, going back and forth to China.

Not sure how support works nownifnyou buy from their site and not a carrier.

I'll be picking up a 4XL 128gb in white next week when I return to the states. Upgrading from a 2XL 128gb phone. If I had to only get one extra lens on there I prefer a telephoto. I do wish the battery was bigger. I'd take an extra mm or 2 of thickness for some more battery, seriously Google.

I can't help but to be more excited about the new Motorola RAZR "flip smartphone" instead:

That just looks like a cool form factor. I'm curious to see how it holds up to real life usage.

Google is offering the same thing although it's for use in the Google store. I don't think I would be able to order the pixel buds with the credit though. I have good true wireless headphones but would want the pixel buds anyway as they are a bit nicer tech wise.

Reviews are starting to come out, pretty much what I expected. It's a good phone hampered by mediocre battery life, although they said the same thing about every Pixel but I've never really had problems getting through the day with mine. I'm kind of on the fence on getting an XL, since Fi supports other phones officially now I'm kind of tempted to try an 11 Pro now that they've caught up with Google in the camera department. Note 10+ is kind of tempting to try too, but I wish Google would just cram a bigger battery in their phones so it doesn't feel like you're compromising to get one.

No clue what they were thinking only having a 2800mah battery in the smaller 4. 90hz screen, always active radar and motion sense, not to mention Google location always hogging up usage from what I see on my 3XL. Many times I just turn off location now and use dark theme.

I'm hoping the 4XL battery will be better.

Got my tracking number. Could be here by Friday. Sounds like it has good wireless charging this time out (no proprietary nonsense) and the earlier models aren't going to get the new camera modes.

I ordered a basic case and screen protector and am looking forward to making the switch from the 3a to the 4.

FedEx says mine should be here tomorrow. I was watching some reviews on the picture quality and I'm surprised. Apple really did a good job this time with their cameras. There are many times I like the pixel 4 pictures better but it's gotten to the point where you really cant tell anymore as they are both so good.

Too bad I can't do the apple ecosystem or else I would have gotten one because they also put bigger batteries in their models.

I'm seeing reports in Reddit and on Twitter that the 90hz smooth display turns off under 50-75% brightness.

Which means it goes to 60hz if you use adaptive brightness which I currently do. This is disapointing and no official word from Google.

I may not even open my package today.

I've read some conflicting reports, there are people saying it stays 90Hz in bright light even if you turn down the brightness. You can also force it to 90Hz all the time in developer settings apparently if you really want to. I'll see how it is, I bet in practice, if you have adaptive brightness on, 90Hz is active most of the time if you're in a somewhat bright room or outside.

I'm supposed to get an XL on Friday, my main worry is how long the battery will last so we'll see how it goes.

I don't mind forcing it on to 90 in dev settings but if that means crap battery life what's the point? I'm sure this can be optimized or fixed with software if it is indeed dropping to 60hz when brightness is low.

I'm conflicted on what I'll do now. I'm supposed to pick it up today. This is disapointing, after they short out on other features they don't even get this right. How did one plus do it? I guess OnePlus 7 pro also has a bigger battery.

so far all the users on AC who got the phone are pretty happy with the battery life. and this is during the time when they are busily setting up their new phones so intense usage.
