Maybe I became cynical or something...
$20 bill was lying on the restaurant floor when I went to get lunch. Business was very slow, no one was in the restaurant besides me and the owner. When the owner went to the kitchen to prepare my order, I found the bill on the floor. I hesitated for a good 30 seconds then I kept it for myself.
This made me think on the ride home... Not because I felt guilty, but my action showed how my perspective has changed over the years. Five years ago as an 18 yr old, I probably would've blindly gave it to the owner or at least mention it simply because it's not mine.
I guess my thought process became more challenging.
Was it the owners money? Maybe.
It was lying on the public floor, accessible by any customers that come into the restaurant.
If I mentioned it, would the owner lie and keep the bill for himself? Maybe.
With these in mind, I decided to keep it. Call it smart or self-serving, I don't care. I'm merely speculating on how I see things differently now... more cynical, realistic? *shrug* or just self-justification? The former-me would've seen this as text book example of a 'good deed'.
