CPU: X2 3800+ Toledo-512 (even though it says Manchester)
HSF: ThermalTake Sonic Tower + 120mm fan w/ FanMate2
Mobo: ECS NForce4-A939 1.1A
Ram: Corsair VS 2 x 512mb PC3200
Video: 6600 PCI-E
HDD: Maxtor 250gb
DVDRW: Pioneer DVR-110D
PSU: Seasonic SS 300w


couple tidbits:

XP SP2 won't recognize HammerFID changes (at least for me).
Found out XP x64 does.
XP SP2 is running at 10 x 244 @ 1.45v (1.425 actual) - above screenshot.
XP x64 will boot at 8 x 270, and Clockgen can do 8 x 300 @ 1.45v (1.425 actual) - priming this now.
now priming 9 x 270

i hate you Core #1 🙁
 
Nice case..

In any case(pun not intended), I'm sure it will be a lot better than that 820D you had..at least my 830 is running stable now, still having feedback from the onboard sound on that Asrock motherboard though. Too bad the stupid thing won't OC at all, load temps of 39-41c and I can't OC ARGH!.

EDIT: now my pentium-d decided to lose it's second core. Windows no longer see's the second core. I tried a repair install, and a fresh install, and it's only seeing it as a single core..
 
Most 3800s will do 2.4 on stock cooling... at 1.4V or below. They're awesome.

P.S. What's that you got on your video card?

a total of 5 (working) fans for the whole rig, all but 1 (the SS) attached to either a FanMate2 or a fan bus.

[*]the 6600 was quite loud, so i unplugged it's fan and just stuck an 80mm fan there on the lowest possible setting.
[*]the SB fan is pretty loud, so that's on a low rpm mode too.
[*]i stuck a fan on top of the hdd to keep it cool
[*]then the 120mm monster, on the lowest possible setting with the FanMate
[*]the Seasonic SS PSU in the back is also inaudible

btw this is how i had my 820D, both computers were near silent, except this one was 1.5x cooler
 
OK, so when is it getting OC'ed ? at least a quickie like I do ? 2500 or better ?

haha it is o/ced! unfortunately the cpu's a 'dud', 2.4ghz @ stock vcore and not much higher with anything else 🙁

haha yeah.. at 30-31c idle it's not so bad. i even increased vcore to 1.5v but 2.5ghz still failed Prime. My load temps are odd though.. 2 x Prime takes it up to 48c, but when I stack S&M on top if that it goes up to 52c. Weird...
 
S&M stresses more than prime. And I don't uven use prime. Try 2x F@H@2500 for a week, see if you get any early unit ends. If not, go that way.
 
huh. Too bad you got a comparitive dud, mine does 2.6 on stock volts. But like mark said, run F@H on it for a couple of weeks @ 2.5. See if you get the EWU's, if not, you'll be more than stable.

I don't know. It depends what cooling you have I guess

I think default vcore is 1.35v. I had to raise it to 1.4v for stability. 1.45v for 2440mhz, 10 x 244. 1.45v for 2400mhz, 8 x 300. I probably won't go above 1.5v, even with my cooling.
 
Not much if any, 8x300 may allow you to achieve a higher ram overclock which doesn't provide much of performance increase on A64's
 
barely any difference, timing more important...so whichever u can run at tighter timings

300 with crap timings (3-4-4 or something) will lose to 240 with 2-2-2

just do a couple benches at both...thats what i always do 😉
 
oh, also running 1:1 will give you more benefit than running 300 with dividers...assuming you cant run 1:1 at both of the speeds you listed

well, with both settings, I'm running a divider with Corsair VS @ 2.5-3-3-6 1T

10 x 240 would be 5:6 giving me 200mhz on ram
8 x 300 would be 2:3 giving me 200mhz on ram

i'm just surprised i could get HTT that high on a "free" mobo!

i was gonna sell my VS and get like 2-2-2-6 @ 200mhz ram, but after reading this
i guess ill just keep my cheepy ram
 
yes, cas latency doesnt make a big difference...but it'll make a bigger difference than ur two given speeds =D

i bet u like the 300 more just cuz it looks cooler 😛

haha, well the crappy thing about 300 HTT is that it won't boot in bios 🙁 (i'd have to set like some arbitrary point (270) then use Clockgen to bring it up to 300+HTT)

right now i'm doing 9 x 270 just for kicks. i haven't figured out what's the max HTT this board will boot at
 
I'm pretty sure that you have a Manchester core, not Toledo, especially considering CPU-z says "Manchester" right there 😉.

Btw kudos for finally upgrading from that abysmal 820D. You don't get any points for cable management though 😉 .

My 3800+ does 2.4 Ghz @ 1.45V and 2.5 Ghz @ 1.52V. I couldn't get it to run prime stable @ 2.6 Ghz, although these suckers boot up to very high clockspeeds (it can be misleading!).

Regarding 300X8 vs 240X10, I've found there is little actual tangible benefit, especially if your RAM is running at similar speeds. 300 Mhz @ crap timings is about equal to ~250 +/- 20 Mhz with good timings, and Athlon64's don't seem to take nearly the hit of not running 1:1 that Pentium 4's do.
 
If your ram speeds are relatively the same, which I'm sure since it's value select, they will be...you're looking at no performance difference between 8x300 and 10x240.

well, explain my E6 Manchester then 😉 CrystalMark and CPU-Z reports Manchesters, where as Everest is reporting Toledo. But they're all reporting JH-E6. Also, the CCBWE stepping is analogous to an Opteron 170, so that's how I based it. and an unresolved debate on the issue i'd say it's a Toledo w/ 1/2 the cache. they just need a new name (kind of like Bartons/Thortons/Tbreds). imagine if Thortons weren't given a code name, and all we had were Bartons, bartons w/ 1/2 cache, and Tbreds. ???? following Everest's naming scheme, i henceforth will call my cpu Toledo-512. yay!

my room's a little colder 🙁 . well, i guess since i've been priming/stressing CPU every night, its about the same as my 820D on idle to this X2 on load 😛

with the ram timings, 10 x 240 and 8 x 300 have dividers that make my ram ddr400, so i suppose it doesn't matter since timings/speed are exactly the same. the only thing that's different is that im doing 9 x 270, giving my ram ddr346, so that's not at spec.

cable manage this! :evil:
