I guess I like Emo Music

Should I start wearing tight pants and makeup? I don't consider this emo or even knew what emo music is.

SDRE was the old emo, back before it came what it is today, which is absolute garbage. Fugazi, Sense Field, and Jawbreaker were considered emo too, but they sound nothing like the "emo" bands of today.

FWIW, I loved that album. about 10 years ago now. Scary 🙁

It was about 14 years ago or so when I first listened to that album. I think there's only one song I didn't care for but all the rest of them are awesome. Weird but I also like some Dashboard...

I don't even really know what is truly considered "emo" these days. I mean I really like these guys but I don't really think of them as emo. The crap that Baked and TestedAcorn posted is quite horrible though.

The current crop is basically what hair metal was to metal. Dress like a girl, wear girl makeup, act like a girl, make shitty music that is only vaguely related to your "influences," sell lots of records to 13-year-old girls.

It's hard to believe, but there have been periods in the past when the musicians were mostly focused on making music, and there was creativity and quality to be found. Even the lyrics were more mature. Ah well, on to the next thing.

really good live. his voice is really powerful, he'll be standing like a ft+ away from the mic and belting.

Fugazi? I thought emo was a new things (like the last ~5 years)? Fugazi hasn't even been around since then, unless I'm confused about what emo is and how long it has been around. Man, I haven't heard Fugazi in years, might have to pick up an old album.

Fugazi has definitely been around since then. I saw them in 2000 or 2001 (first concert I went to actually). I think they formed in the 80s but I'm not positive.

Scary, isn't it? I'm wondering if many folks here even heard of SF or Jawbreaker. I'm pretty excited that I have tickets to the Jimmy Eat World x10 tour.

Might as well raise you with this question -- have you watched the full live Capnjazz show that someone posted on youtube? It's pretty crazy.

Whatever, though. Most ppl who were into the genre back then still knew that Bright Eyes sucked, but that's the "emo" that got popular. They can keep their makeup and girls' jeans.

Fugazi is still around, at least sort of. I live near DC, and every once in a while, they pop up and play a show. When Q and not U decided to call it quits, I think they played one of their final shows w/ them at Ft. Reno Park.

Yeah, I'd say Brand New was part of the older style of emo, back when it was a good alt genre.
Same with JEW. I love Jimmy, even the current stuff, though I do much prefer listening to Clarity and Bleed American, the latter most.

Thankfully Brand New and JEW has stuck around even with the current crop of the genre producing the same shit as every other band in the genre. sigh
Though Brand New has kind of changed with the times. Their latest album is much slower, though I do enjoy some of the musical styling on the album, but their older stuff was better.

Linkin Park is/was Nu Metal. I liked it when I had emotions in High School. Now I'm in the real world, and my emotions are reserved for my loved ones and not peer pressure. LULZ

I thought Emo music was like the Smiths or such. Either way, I like all music except rap. Any rap=crap IMO, especially when I I see suburban white kids acting all ghetto. makes me feel like if I didnt have a family I would just grab an ak47 and wipe out whitekids into ghetto rap. Too much southpark. Sorry if I offend thee. 🙂
