I guess Florida isn't the only thing trying to kill us

Had some pretty near misses lately:

Asteroid ----- Date(UT) -- Miss Distance -- Velocity (km/s) -- Diameter (m)
2021 RS2 -- 2021-Sep-08 -- 0.1 LD -- 17.6 -- 3
2021 RP2 -- 2021-Sep-08 -- 0.3 LD -- 5.1 ------ 3
2021 RS5 -- 2021-Sep-08 -- 0.4 LD -- 8 -------- 8
2021 RQ2 -- 2021-Sep-09 -- 0.5 LD -- 3.8 ----- 4
2021 RB6 -- 2021-Sep-09 -- 0.7 LD -- 9.4 ----- 9
2021 RG6 -- 2021-Sep-11 -- 0.2 LD -- 7.4 ----- 6
2021 RR5 -- 2021-Sep-12 -- 0.2 LD -- 9 -------- 7

LD means "Lunar Distance." 1 LD = 384,401 km, the distance between Earth and the Moon. 1 LD also equals 0.00256 AU.

0.1 LD = 38440.1 km or 23,885.57 miles

In the good news department, comets 67P/Churyumov- Gerasimenko might get to magnitude 8 in early November & C/2021 A1 (Leonard) might get to magnitude 4 in early December.

This isn't actually "lately"...we're constantly having space rocks zip past us. We've only recently obtained the specialized equipment and techniques to find them so it seems more frequent.

Not as near as it seems. Friendly reminder, due to a happy coincidence (or easter egg from the simulation designers) all other planets in our solar system can fit between the earth and the moon at the same time.

All too small to seriously worry about anyway. The 2013 meteor in Chelyabinsk was 20m in diameter for reference and still blew apart high in the atmosphere.
