I have to choose one of these DVD writer in the next 1 hour, going to make a purchase today. All see to have their advantage and disavantage...but i want to use it ONLY to rip DVD i will rent and BURN them for myself.ONLY FOR MOVIES.I dont cae about games if they are not as good for games, but i want QUALITY BURN and the fastest possible for my MOVIES i will rent, download etc.

Thanks in advance guys.

UPDATE

I saw that the NEC was a very popular choise, and honestly it made me hesitate, but after reading some reviews on the internet, i decide to choose the LG one.

So far it burn perfectly.I am using DVD shrink to ripp my dvd( btw is there a program betetr than that, that will let me remove the video i dont want to encode? (DVD shrink encode the movie track totally, even the extra, even if you dont choose them to be on your dvd)

Also made another purchase haha, a new dvd player for my home.My samsung was crappy to read dvd-r and was not able to read the dvd i copy.My ps2,pc was able to do it..but not my samsung crap dvd player. So i purchase ALSO a LG dvd player and it play great

If i got any problem well i will for sure go get the NEC but so far its perfect...i just found the encoding part, that take about 20 minutes..is a bit long...but burning take about 7 min...so if anyone got any cool trick tip...lemme know! :D

Pioneer has my vote - I have had a 107 for a long time now and it's been working flawlessly. If not then a Liteon, cause I had a CD burner from them and it was really, really great. Forget BenQ, LG, NEC, and I don't really have an opinion on ASUS. All things considered... get a Pioneer you'll love it.

I voted for the pioneer, but own the 3520 and can say that either of these will be great. Both use the same (or damn close) NEC chipset. I think the ASUS is based on one of these drives, btw.

So you are looking for the best bang for buck DVD writer to copy movies you don't own?

I'd go with the Liteon. I've never used it, but their products seem decent. Or Plextor if you can afford it.

Wow. I'd imagine you'll be flamed for being so honest about copying movies you don't own.

I love my NEC 3520A. Probably about 65 DVDRs in a two month span without a single coaster with 4x and 8x SL media.

I've got the NEC ND-3520A BK and it's ridiculously noisy. Not super noisy, but noisier than you'd expect for something that got about 100 5 star reviews on NewEgg. I submitted a review saying so, and it was not posted.

It burns DVDs perfectly, but actually watching a DVD using that drive is irritating due to the loud whirrrr. The cheap HP CD-writer / DVD-ROM that came with this machine is whisper quiet at all times, so I use that for viewing DVDs or listening to CDs.

I vote for posting this in the General Hardware forum, what with this being a General Hardware question and all.

Let me guess. You dl'ed Dee & Liggy's firmware without actually *reading* the documentation..

I used the factory firmware, and just upgraded to the 3.04, and I found it to be noisy.

I use Nero DriveSpeed to fix that :).

Other than that, it has been perfectly fine.

What program are u going to use to rip the DVDs? I used DVDdecrypter because most movies are encrypted these days.

What about encoding them after u rip them? Dual layer media is WAY too expensive so I encode them using Dr. Divx. Just about any burner will burn a divx/avi file.

I voted for the NEC vecause I just bought it and it works great. The whole ripping process is more dependent on processor speed not the burner.

And about the noise of the NEC ... what noise? I hardley know it's there. It's the quietest drive I have ever used!

Good luck ...

Ok even if NEC seem to have all the majority of vote, one i read review's about it is this one..The LG GSA4163B

Here is a list of GOOD and BAD they write about it and tell me if it concern me for backing up movie EXCLUSIVELY.

The Good

Very good DVD error correction
Supports all DVD recordable/re-writable formats
Write/verify function for DVD-RAM media to improve reliability
High DVD writing quality with most media at all speeds
High CSS DVD-Video ripping speed
Very quiet operation either when reading or writing
Can overburn up to 95mins
Supports CD-Text (reading/writing)
Can backup Audio protected discs
Low price compared with competition
Supports DVD-ROM booktype for DVD+R and DVD+R DL formats
- The Bad

Reduced writing speed for DVD-RAM media (because of its write/verify function)
Doesn't support overburning for DVD±R formats
Average CD error correction
Doesn't support Mount Rainier
Cannot be used to measure CD/DVD media

- Like To be fixed

Booktype support with DVD+RW media
CD writing quality with specific media
Option to enable/disable "write and verify" function for DVD-RAM media
Wider media support list for 16X and 12X recording

The NEC got a score of 3-3-4-3-5-3 while the LG got a score of 3-4-4-4-5-4 from cdr-info.com.

Anyone got past BAD experience with the LG model???

My LITEON SOHW-1673S DL was just sent back to newegg because it would not read or write any disks at all. I dont think it even spun up either. I bought the drive in Feb. It worked good then all of a sudden it just died.

Let ME guess. You're just one more of the many numbnuts infesting this forum as of late?

The drive is stupidly noisy, even when playing a simple music CD. No firmware has been touched... EVER!

I'm sorry you have sand in your vagina. If you douched, it might help the itching AND the smell. Don't do it too often though, or you might get a yeast infection.

If your drive is noisy while playing a burned DVD video, it is functioning correctly. If your drive is noisy while playing an audio CD, it is defective.

franguinho told a female member that she sounds like she has sand in her vagina and was given a month off. While Ornery isn't a female, I don't see why there should be a double standard.

BAN!

Did I call it or what? F-tard was WRONG assuming I flashed it, but I hit the nail on the head about being a numbskull. Just what this forum needs more of, eh?

The stinkin' NEC is unacceptably noisy playing music CDs, but insanely loud playing a DVD. The POS DVD-ROM combo drive that came in this Pavilion is whisper quiet doing both. Why should that be? How much do I have to spend to get a DVD burner to do the same?
