SEATTLE (KTLA) -- Coffee addicts nationwide have a new reason to be thankful for that big drink in the morning. Seattle-based premium roast shop Starbucks announced Sunday they will be unveiling their largest cup size yet - the 31-ounce "Trenta."
Named after the Italian word for the number "30", the new "Trenta" will offer 7 more ounces and cost 50 cents more than the already popular "Venti" size. The new size will be available only for iced coffee, iced tea and lemonade drinks.
The "Trenta" will be unveiled in 14 states including Hawaii and Texas on Jan. 18 and will debut in California Feb. 1. The drink is expected to be nationwide by May 3.
Starbucks says unsweetened drinks in the new size will have fewer than 90 calories and sweetened versions will have less than 230 calories.
The world's biggest coffee chain joins the list of quick-service, low-cost food retailers offering monstrous drinks to their customers, with McDonalds offering a 32-ounce tea drink for $1 and convenience stores offering fountain drinks in 32 and 64-ounce sizes.
Starbucks has yet to announce if or when international locations will be receiving the larger size.
