Last week I got to play the 1st hour of Prey and thought it was really great, so I threw together a bunch videos. Let me know what you think. :)

Want to see just the intro (first 7 minutes) of the game?

Here's the 1st hour without any commentary:

A Let's Play with my impressions and thoughts:

I had a short, impromptu interview with Lead Designer Ricardo Bare:

Here's a video of the entire Human Skill Tree, each node revealed (Alien Skill Tree was not available at the demo):

Here's what the hacking minigame looks like (fun!):

I also checked out the menu systems and PC graphic options:

I played the original (2006 game) for the first time last year and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. You start out in a bar as a Native American, get into a bar-fight and within 8 mins you're onboard a giant biological ship ("The Sphere") which really did feel alien like in nature (biological grenades, gravity pads, alien language on consoles that can be translated by pet spirit guide, portals, walking on walls, the ceiling, the general atmosphere of it, etc) and the spirit walking mechanic was pretty well done.

Does this "reboot" feel the same way, or is it all Earth bound office buildings? To me, half of what gave the original game "character" was the Native American stuff + alien environment. Also, does this continue on from "There are those who have taken notice and want to meet you" thing after you step through the portal, or is it not a sequel?

I would recommend watching this video (1st 7 mins of the game) so I don't spoiler too much. It answers a few of your questions. This game has zero ties to the original Prey. When I asked Ricardo Bare (Lead Designer) about that he basically said Bethesda owned the IP, paid lots of money for it and needed to use it. Other than that, no ties.

Its funny that they would not use any of the previous details about the IP.
It would be like someone buying the Fallout IP and making a Tower game where you fallout of the windows of the tower

Well its their IP and can do what they wish with it

I must be dumber than dirt.

Could have sworn this game was out already and nobody was impressed.
I gotta keep up with news.

I too am kinda confused why they bothered to buy/market the 'Prey' title if it has nothing to do with the game. Why not buy the rights to Wing Commander and make the same game? It has as much in common.

Because they purchased the Prey license back when Prey 2 was a thing and had a lot of potentiol. That game was canceled--and according to Bethesda, for good reason--and so they folded Arkane's game into it. I understand from a business perspective why they did it, and I understand the confusion from the consumers perspective.

Ah okay, I didn't know the purchase was done for a different title. Makes sense to just re-use it for this one then I suppose (for a business perspective). If it was Alien_Shooter_2000 I wouldn't have batted an eye, but I loved Prey, so I guess it worked to get my attention.

The first Prey was a really incredible game and really demonstrated what a talented developer could do with the first person perspective as a medium. While I haven't had the opportunity to play any of Arkane's games, it sounds like they're the right bunch to pick up on the themes and methods the first game left behind.

I've been on a bit of an RPG kick recently, but would be more than happy to have a reason to dip my toes into the FPS pool again. Haven't done that since Bioshock Infinite.
