I got the ASUS A7V266-E running! Spoke too soon

I got this board from the first shipment at newegg. I was having constant problems with the ASUS A7V266-E. It would crash 🙁

I tried moving the 2x256 crucial ram into other slots, changed type of ram, changed PS, changed graphics card, even changed the hd when it would no longer boot, upgraded bios to 1005. Finally rma'd the beast.

Got the replacement board today (newegg is GREAT about that). The board is version 1.07. It has a metal cpu lever. And best of all, the Alpha PAL8045 fits!!! (note: the alpha WOULD NOT fit on the original board).

Installed the board with original hd and it boots/runs great! I noticed the new board is still using bios 1004.

I just wanted to let those with "issues" with the ASUS A7V266-E that it may be the board version.

IMO: The original rev board I got had problems that were fixed by rev 1.07. I do not remember the rev of the original board.

Cograts Boa,

I have had mine up about a week. 2 restarts, uninitiated, and cause stated to be the wrong CPU speed. Different times doing different things. Once during 3DMark2001 and once just idling. Reset the correct speed and off I went.

That is the only issue I have had with this board. I am pretty happy with it and would buy it again.😀

D'oh!!!!
Ok, I installed it and it was running GREAT! I ran a number of programs and there were no problems. I even ran SANDRA (single tests) and everything was fine. Then after four hours of using the computer, I posted this info.

Last night, I ran the SANDRA burn-in suite. It was working so I watched some TV. The blue screen awaited my return (like an old friend). Now it reboots while starting up w2k, right when it flickers to the final w2k desktop screen.

I update the bios to 1005, no help.

here is the system:
Asus A7V266-E rev 1.07 / ae1005 bios
1.4 Tbird AYHJA
2x256 crucial PC2100
ibm 60gxp 60gb
plextor 24x cdrw
kryo II
3com 905b
3.5 Teac floppy
enermax EG651P-VE (FM)

Try it with only 1 stick of ram.
I tried one stick and system works fine.
then tried my other stick and I get the same problems.
So I tried my buddies stick and it worked fine.
all sticks are crucial 256MB DDR cl2.5

I ran MemTest86 and it found many, many, many errors. I took out the first mem stick and moved the second to dim1 slot. MemTest86 found no errors!!!!

Tried booting from hd => failed. Said corrupt files. So I installed a seagate then formatted and installed w2k and all drivers, etc. (except for the promise driver)

So far, so good.

I've been running Prime95, SANDRA burn-in, 3dmark and atto for ~12 hours and not a single problem. About an hour ago I even switched to slight oc'ing, still working great!

BTW: the sandra scores are right where they should be.

CiNcRoN: thanks for the info. This was the right path.

I'll further test the mem stick.

Thanks for the help.
