I saw on one of those nutty 'use household items for purposes they're not meant to be used for' shows on TLC once. It said un can use spam for cleaning.

me too. same message, same time, same provider...

Being charged for the Spam should be a reason to be able to get out of their Hostage like Contracts too. I will ask my Attorney.

is there a sprint phone text message mailing list? or are they just stringing numbers together @spintstextmessageaddress.com and hitting everyone? nothing on verizon yet, but if i start getting those damn messages that flood my inbox on my phone i'm gonna be pissed

There was a thread over at the SA forums yesterday about this same email. It looks like (most) Sprint users are getting this email messege, as the person who posted the thread was on sprint and several people chimed in later saying they were on sprint too.

Text spam is already a problem in the UK. This sounds like the first big spamming here in the US. Hopefully they track the person down and sue them (but chances are they're smart enough to cover their tracks with zombie PC's doing the spamming).

I'm guessing they're "wardialing" the numbers, it'd be the most effective solution, unless there's a clause in your sprint contracts saying they can sell your number to third parties.

Verizon charges their users for incoming text messeges if you don't subscribe to the $2/mo texting plan, but they also have the ability to block all SMS messeges from people not on your contact list.

It wouldn't be hard to get a list of all the NPA NXXs that a telco uses for wireless and just send the message to every user in the range.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out since typically you are charged for incoming text messages beyond what's included in your contract.

It looks like Sprint has a way to block incoming messages (at least for the newer SMS-capable phones; don't know if it works with the regular e-mail)...
Go to www.sprintpcs.com and log in to your account, then go to "Text Messaging", select "Settings & Preferences" from the menu on the left. You can select which types of messages you want to be able to receive (web messages, email, "TAP" messages), or you can block specific phone numbers or email addresses (up to 20).
