heh, i was walking to get some lunch, down a sidewalk, cut to cross a busy street while there was a break in the traffic. I hear a "...watch it" and immediately get run over.

My said, "FVCK!" out of suprise... and then the guy starts looking at me like it was my fault. I informed him that there was such a thing as bike lanes, and the there was in fact, a bike lane 2 streets over. He looked at me funny like he didn't quite get it.

EDIT: this occured while I was still on the sidewalk.

Look both ways before crossing!!

Bicycles have just as much right on the roadways as cars.

Yeah, we're technically a vehicle on the road. Bike lanes are there to keep cars away from bikes but they're no compulsory. You were legally in the wrong unless you were in a crosswalk.

EDIT- never mind. Bikes are illegal on sidewalks in most areas. The guy was a dumbass.

I wished bikes stayed off sidewalks. When I walk on the way to campus, theres clearly a bike lane on both sides of the street, but most people still elect to use the damn sidewalk. Me and my friend usually just block the whole sidewalk to be a jerk.

If some guys leaps off the curb into traffic and you can't help but hit him it's not your fault. Happens all the time here in town.

Now, if the pedestrian is in a crosswalk it's another story.

So were you wearing your thong when you hit him? :)

I've been known to key the sh*t out of cars who blow through crosswalks. Really pisses me off when some fscktard can't be bothered to stop for 5 seconds (as required by state law) to let a family cross the damn street. :|

I love idiots like that who do the wrong thing then blame you.

I was in Manhattan a few years back crossing (it was safe and said WALK) but this cab comes roaring up and honks at me. I took my fist and pounded on the hood as hard as I could. It hurt for a while, but the dent and the look on his face was well worth it...

Don't blame ya (I was referring to pedestrians in the crosshairs...er...crosswalk, though) ;)

I don't know how many times I've been honked at as I slow down behind a cyclist as I can't see to cross the double-yellow to pass him. People need to learn patience.

i don't see what that has to do with whether you have a right to run over pedestrians or not.

Gee....really? :p

I hate it when I back a few cars up behind me when the lanes are narrow or something. You can rest assured that the first car will pass you carefully, but a few of the others (who are pissed because the first one slowed) will buzz your elbow to show you how superior they are.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people go ballistic at being slowed by a bike for maybe 5-10 seconds yet sit like complacent little sheep in gridlock for hours.

Because it's something they 'seemingly' have more control over...oh...some idiot on a bike who thinks he owns the road. Well...my car is bigger and he better move!

It's not about having a "right" to nail them. I certainly don't speed up and try to hit them just because they're out of the crosswalk. I'm just saying that if you inadvertently hit someone who's jaywalking, you are not legally at fault in most cases.
