My boss calls me into her office today and asked me to shut the door. I pretty much started this job 3 months ago. She proceeds to list all of the problems she has with my work. The entire process of my job including all of the data has been a mess since I started. I inherited a nightmare. This is basically the issue with all of her complaints. I have been working vigorously to try and fix it but it is so messed up that it has been taking a while. I am pretty much taking the blame for this it seems even though it was screwed up before I came.

I think her boss is coming down on her and therefore she is coming down on me. I calmly and rationally told her my position and she pretty much did not want to hear any of it.

Oh the joys of working for a lifeless fortune 500 hundred company. Maybe I should update the resume and not put up with this garbage.

Life's too short. Find another job that you'll actually enjoy.

If you aren't happy and are underappreciated, just make a fist the next time you see her and lift up the middle one. Oh, but find a better job first...

Do you have a solution to her complaints?
If so, how long will it take to fix?

Best advice so far.

She will appreciate a solution and a timeline that she can take to the boss that is giving her grief. Just make sure you can deliver.

Hey, that sounds like exactly the same situation i'm in, except i actually fix all the sh*t that my predecessors didn't fix. In fact, my predecessor would just play video games (WoW in fact) and watch cartoons on his laptop all day long and had a better standing with my manager than i do. I'm cleaning up all his sh*t and i don't get so much as a thank you from her. In fact, i still get a little crap from her too.

That's it. Quit when it gets too difficult.

Stop blaming the previous party. The job and all of its duties became your responsibility when you began work. Work hard to correct it while also making it easier for you and others (depending on what it is that you do). Once everything is in line, you'll feel good about the hard work and accomplishment and may be rewarded for your efforts.

Good luck!

Exactly. "It isn't my fault because . . . " by itself isn't very useful to your boss. "I can fix these problems in this order by these dates" is.

How often do you talk to your boss about your work? If the boss is forced to measure your work by just metrics and what other people say.

My very first boss told me to make sure I say hi to my boss at least once a day and actually talk to them once a week. That makes reviews a whole lot easier.

If you told her each time you found a new big problem, she'd have an easier time explaining it to her boss.

She didn't just tell him to fix problems. She blamed him for problems that weren't his fault.

they are his bosses fault when her boss talks to her, they are his fault when she talks to him.
