The family and I go to HEB to get some needed groceries. Wife likes to occasionally buy scratch off lottery tickets and decides to buy a couple...one for her and one for me. She scratches off hers and grumpily rips it up after coming up dry.

I, begrudingly, start scratching off mine. I've never been a fan of them so I makes some gruff remarks about what a waste of money they are and begin my scratching.

It's a Texas Hold 'em scratch off. I start at "Table 1". I get a pair of jacks in the hole. Scratch off the dealer's and see 8D/9D. I can already see the flush coming. Next comes the community cards.....J J 5 10 Q....

I see my four jacks and think that, at the very worst, I will win back the cost of the ticket. I scratch away the prize and see $100,000.

I can't believe it. I whisper to myself "Holy shite....we just won $100,00!!! I call the missus over and tell her. She thinks that I am joking until I show her the ticket. I'm almost screaming at this point. She looks as shocked as I am. What an incredible feeling. We have been looking at homes and all I can think about is how quickly we can cash in and make an offer on one.

THEN....I happen to take a closer look at the cards again.

The freaking dealer hits a straight flush beating my quads and making me feel like I just got ro-sham-bo'ed.

After that...I knew the other "tables" on the ticket would be just as fruitless. I continue to see the dealer come up huge....

"Table/game 1" Straight flush (the one that my wife and I will laugh/cry about for years to come

Table/game 2 Full boat to beat my flush

Table/game 3 His SECOND straight flush (bastage)

Table/game 4 Quad aces

Table/game 5 Quad tens

I feel so abused. My wife wants to frame it for posterity and I can't think of a way to talk her out of it and having to relive the ordeal every day for the rest of my life.
 
seriously the EXACT same thing happened to me, except i didn't have my wife around at the time. So I just got all excited before the ro sham bo feeling hit me.
 
That sucks...I occasionally buy scratch-offs but they never come out so harsh.

Bummer, dude. Good luck on finding a house, though.

that sucks, I work at a liquor store in Cali, well I did. had an old dude (almost 90) come in and buy scratches every day. He was playing the poker night one. So he scratches off all 5 of the tables, hits royal flushes on all of them. Without scratching the prize box below each hand, he just assumed he hit the jackpot (don't blame him) He is almost having a heartattack in the store he is so happy thinking he's won $100,000, so I scan the ticket and have to tell him he won 5 bucks. I hadn't unscratched the prize boxes either. And I just assumed if not $100,000 5 royal flushes is going to pay big. He wanted to kill me, kill the lottery people and kill the person in line behind him.

It was funny, and sad.
