I got pummeled today.

What a humbling experience this was. It has been a while since I did anything strenuous, although I was very super hyper active what I thought was just yesterday (oh... about 10 years ago). So, I decided to start surfing again...

Well, it wasn't much surfing as it was me taking a beating. It was pretty choppy out today, blown over, pretty much unsurfable, but I was determined so I went out anyways. After getting washed for a good 15 minutes, I wasn't really getting anywhere so I started catching the little inside white heads. Then, I discovered something else - not only I've lost my endurance, my balance is gone as well.

All in all, it was a thorough thrashing of Sssnail. But I felt good. I haven't felt this good in a while (well, besides... you know). I could barely move my arms to get out of my wetsuit, but I know it's the beginning of another chapter. A good chapter.

I shall emerge a much leaner and stronger Sssnail soon enough. I shall become a ball of energy like I once was.

Got pummeled on Tuesday.

I go in to work out, pair up with a bigger guy for randori. He's a white belt; so I think to myself, "eh, I'll go easy on this guy".

He gets me with double leg takedowns and all sorts of random-ass throws. Not really clean technique, but he got me with strength and I didn't have the technique to control that.

Time to step up my game!

With a baby seal?

I think I was the baby seal, I looked like one. Mind you, I actually LOOK fit, but I'm not where I'd like to be. I thought I was still in my 20's... with all my strength and stamina. Nope. I could barely push up on to get on the board after the pounding trying to get outside.

I'm gonna get my ass kicked on Friday. I'm helping my neighbor take down a tree in his back yard. I don't remember what kind of tree it is, but it's a filthy fucking thing...drops small thin leaves all year long, (doesn't loose leaves in the winter) and during the spring, it drops "green marbles" about the size of olives...One of my other neighbors is helping us because it drops all that crap in his pool as well as the owner's pool...so we ALL want the fucking thing gone.
I'm not a lot of help with physical tasks like this anymore...just a few years ago, I'd have been up in the tree doing the cutting...but nowadays, the best I can manage is to be the "ground guy" on the rope line, lowering limbs as they're cut and dragging them out of the way, then cutting things up into pieces small enough to fit into our green waste barrels. (no room to just drop the tree, it has to be taken down in small pieces..fence on two sides, house on another, and swimming pool on the 4th side, with maybe 10-15 feet of working room...all concrete)
The tree has 3 "trunks" that will have to come down, and it's about 30-35 feet high, so it'll take us several hours to take it down piece by piece.
