I got pulled over on Friday for having a tail-light out

Basically, I need to have the tail light fixed within 30 days or my registration is suspended. No problem, I was going to fix it within the nect few days anyways. Now, I have to submit the service repair order to the state after it has been signed by the mechanic who fixed the problem. My other option is to have it fixed by other means, and have a police officer sign off on it.

Im going to fix it today or tomorrow, but there the hell am I supposed to find a random police officer? I think Im going to drive to the police department, and go right up to someone and ask them to check my tail light and sign the paper.

Usually all you have to do is go to the copshop. Tell them you have a fix it ticket you need signed.

that sounds like a waste of everyone's time. Why couldn't he have just given you a warning (you may not have even known it was out) and then if you get pulled over again, give you a repair order then or a ticket.

Yea, it's a waste of my time, and probably will be a hassle to some police officer when I visit the police station. A warning would have been nice.

I showed the judge a receipt for the welding torch I rented to weld it and he dismissed the ticket....

Yup. That's what I did. Showed the cop the receipt for the bulb (fixed it myself) and showed them that the light was working. They took the ticket from me and said forget about it.

Did you tell him that you knew it was out, and were driving anyway? That may be why he gave you a fix-it instead of a verbal warning.

I got pulled over about 2 weeks ago for having a headlight out and the light above my license plate out...he also got me for doing 37 in a 30. I explained to him that the headlight had just went out and was planed on being fixed this coming weekend. I also did not know about the license plate light being out. He gave me a warning for speeding and let me go.

It sounds like you got a cop who was in a bad mood or something. Also, going to the police station to get an office to sign off sounds like it'd be the best option.

Hmm, I surprised he just took the ticket from you. My ticket says that I have to have it signed and then I have to send it to the appropriate address. If I dont have it signed and sent out in 30 days, my registration is suspended for the car.

Too many people drive around with taillights out and that can be dangerous in a number of different situations.

A couple weeks ago I was driving to work and the sun was behind me, at the right angle that it lit up all the reflectors on the cars' rear lights. So as for the main lights on the back of the car, I could not tell if they were on or not; thus the middle brake light (present on all the cars around me at that time) was the only way to tell if they were braking. The car in front of me did not have a working middle brake light. This didn't pose a major problem to me as I try to be observent and provide enough space, but it is dangerous nonetheless.

There is a woman who I see driving into RTP on a regular basis and she has ONE, count 'em ONE, taillight functioning.

Tickets make people do the right thing because otherwise they are too f-ing lazy. Sucks, but that's the price you pay for living in this society.

i think most states have inspection stations for this type of issue, i know washington state does (or did when i lived there)

Doesn't that bother you? I had a no-reg. ticket a few months ago and had it taken care of, and they just took the ticket, no paperwork, nothing to show that it was fixed. For all I know, something wil get screwed up and I'll have a warrant. :laugh:

Yea, you're right. I know it's a safety issue and people should not neglect these issues with their cars. And I know that these tickets force those people who would naturally neglect the issue to fix the problem with their cars.

But I was seriously planning on fixing it soon. I would like to think most people would be that proactive about these things as well.

Doesn't that bother you? I had a no-reg. ticket a few months ago and had it taken care of, and they just took the ticket, no paperwork, nothing to show that it was fixed. For all I know, something wil get screwed up and I'll have a warrant. :laugh:

I moved about 6 years ago. But before I moved, I got a speeding ticket. At my new residence, I waited and waited for my court date to come in the mail. Apparently, a little bit of my mail was sent to the old address, and I never received my court date.

Fast forward some months to Valentines Day. I got pulled over with my ex gf in the car. The cop told me to get out and get in the backseat of his patrol car. He told me that my license was suspended. I thought I was going to jail....he was cool about it though, he let me go as long as my gf drove the car instead of me.

I got pulled over for having my license plate lights out, and got a repair warning for that which had to be fixed and signed w/in 10 days, and then mail it to some address w/in 30.

However after I had it signed, I forgot to mail it comletely and found the slip again when I cleaned out my car over the weekend. So I think the registration on my vehicle is suspended. Good thing I'm going to get rid of this car in like a week cause I already have my new car, I just don't have it registered yet.
