Was offered the job last week. Did a short interview. Got a verbal offer and I said I will give a decision by end of tomarrow. Kind of unexpected as I have an interview with our department heads for a training postion which I'm supposeddly the favorite.

QA analyst pays a lot more but trainer I have a crap ton more freedom.

Thoughts?

Software QA? Seems boring. Trainers often get to travel, interact with more people and think creatively. How much is much more? >10% might make QA seem better.

Brother in law was QA for Amazon for a while. He said it was cool work to do, just trying to break things all day, but long hours and high pressure. He eventually left but not because he couldn't cut it. As I understand he was quite good at it and highly valued. Just wanted to move back to Canada.

Stepping stone to other things, right?

Software QA can be tough, did it for many, many years. What's the earning potential for the training position? If there is travel involved is that something you'd be interested in doing?

Which would give you more marketable skills? Unless you're planning on staying with your company forever, that's something to consider.

I'd be interested in how much the QA position is too. There's a lot to be said for quality of life that you'd get with the trainer position, but regardless of what some others may believe... more money will increase quality of life too if it's substantial enough.

I got offered the training postion but the dollar amount was a lot lower than the QA position. I verbally accepted the QA offer.

I won't say the salary amount but some of my more experienced coworkers make just shy of 100k.

I look forward to the challenge!

I've done software QA for the past 8 years or so. It gets boring after awhile, and the industry is doing their damnest to automate the job out of existance.

I'm getting into DevOps now instead. It's tougher but more interesting work.

If you want to join the $100K club in IT, become an IT consultant in a hot skill like AWS cloud migration. You'll make mad money if you're any good.
I sent you my PayPal via PM. Send me some money for 100k vouch. Not going to join the club if I get no proof. Send me couple grand and I join. My salary is 350k so I should be the leader.

I have been doing software QA for 15 years now. I've done it all. I now float between Software Performance Testing and Software Automation Engineering/Architect. The pay for these upper technical QA positions is pretty good. You just have to stick with it and gain either experience or the education along the way.
