I got my new mountain bike :D

Lonyo

Lifer
I went to the local bike shop (about 200meters away) and picked up a Gary Fisher Marlin.
They even gave me some new grips because the old ones were small, 25% of RRP and a free checkover in a couple of months 🙂
I plonked down £350 in cash (all in 50's) which shocked the bloke I think (since I'm 16, so you might not expect that much in cash 😀), and went away with my shiny new bike 🙂

Piccy 🙂

Deore rear der, Alivio 🙂() front, might have to change that, cos it's sucky.
Manitou Six front forks (hope they don't break).
Probably $540 or so, but things in the UK seem overpriced in general.

Nice bike, I have the same one except with the yellow/blue/red paintjob. It's an awesome bike, a real pleasure to ride. The thing climbs like a goat and is nearly impossible to go over the handle bars on.

This is actually a pic of a beer but the bike is in the background

First thing to do though... is get rid of those crappy pedals. Replace with some clip ins.

Also good upgrades for weight savings are...

seatpost
seat
stem
handlebar

becuase... the stock units are kinda chunky.

Personally I find the brake levers a bit flimsy, but havn't changed them yet.

Heck I wish I lived in a place warm, so that I'd be able to ride a bike all the time, I hate these crappy stinking cars and subway. And I live so far away from everything, that would suck to ride for a good 20 kilometers one way, however, had there been none of these forking cars around, they tend to hit those on bicycles, b/c they are on same roads, heavy forking trucks (God how I hate all this crap), and cars and you just can't go anywhere on a bike especially when it's well below zero. Man, it sucks bigtime.

I'm 16 and in the UK, so I can't drive, as of yet. But only a bit over a month 'til I'm 17 and can start to learn 🙂

And bikes are better for the environment, better for the user (exercise) and they cost less, are cheaper to run, cheaper to buy, and less likely to get stuck in traffic.
The above is only mainly valid if you live in a city.

Well I agree, you have to face that cars are overly expensive, even for those with money, it's overly expensive a purchase and it's so unreliable, and the maintenance costs literally a fortune, if you have any choice, and nobody seems to, don't get it. It's a ripoff and they want to make a fool out of you driving their stupid POS crap, by their stupid road rules, I don't even mention how ridiculously dangerous and unsafe it is to drive. You never know if you get home this evening or will die. 😀 Well, I know for some people it's just fun. I also don't have much of a choice, but I do know they trick me into their dumb crap and they want to rob me for their useless dumb crap.

I have a Tassajara, it's a bit dirty but here it is...

The beast
EDIT: It's in the new trainer stand I just picked up, it works wonders when Vegas is underwater. 😉

This is my Trek 4300. I love it, but I don't get to ride it as much as I'd like because I live in a rural area with no bike paths or trails. Lonyo is right that a bike is much more practical in an urban setting.

Built in BC, Canada. Lasted me three years somehow. Best use of my money. Ever.
edit: stuff to ride on in the background (the wooden stuff).

Rocky Mountain is where it's at.
