I reapplied the AS5 again, although the second time was harder than the first. I did spill iddy bitty bit (1 mm and thinner than a single hair) of the paste on the green part of the die and I cleaned as much as I can. Still the temperature stayed the same...almost as the same with it's original themal paste. I give up, and this card still lives. Well, I'll just have to live with it. Now the max core is 79-80 C. It's a stalemate I guess, the card had beaten my ass. Although it's freaking cheap...139.99 after rebates.

I'll keep you guys updated :)

I think EVGA has greatly increased the stock voltages on several of their cards in response to the stability problems. A lot of people seem to be complaining about high temperatures all of a sudden.

So far about stability, it's stable 100 % ... now I'm going to play some oblivion just to make sure the card is running ok.

I'll install fear later tomorrow, gotta get some sleep and work in the morning :(

btw...oblivion looks BEAUTIFUL @ 1600x1200 on the 2007FP (got a replacement !!!). Without the help with tweaper (ini adjuster program) It would be unplayable.

Right now it seems the core max reached @ 80 C :D (yayyyyy!), slightly better than last time

Check out the sexy oblivion Screen Shot

I added a cooling pci slot, although there is a low whistling/humming sound. This comp was way more quieter than my first build :)

now my pc can have some cooling for once.

Can you PM / Post what you did to make Oblivion playable at that resolution?

I have an XFX 7600GT with stock speeds 580 / 750.
I'm a tad reluctant to overclock as it cannot run at 580 / 800; And some 7600GTs I noticed, run stock memory at 800mhz.

I would like to know you're whole system specs :). There's a nice program called tweaper, it helps adjust the ini files to give a slight boost of performance.

I can play @ 1600x1200 with no difficulty, but there was always a lag when enemies are heading right at ya while being outside becoming somewhat less playable. So i dummed down the resolution but increased a lil bit of eye candy. I can't play without at least some grass :p

I have an

Opteron 144 @ 2.7Ghz [Can go higher, but have had no need..]
2GB DDR500 [1GB now, 2GB this week]
7600GT @ 580 / 750 [Can OC if I'm borderline playable FPS.]
Ultra 500W PSU

I followed Anand's med quality http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2746&p=2

including with the slight adjustments on having distant trees on, large textures, 10 % interior/exterior shadows, and bloom lighting on. and of course 1600x1200. Play around with the settings especially, the grass fade. Turning off the grass fade down to zero really helps with the FPS on outside.
