But it caused my system to reboot when firing up two instances of Prime95 Torture Tests.

I was running it on a 250Mhz FSB. I am thinking I may be able to get it to run stably at 3Ghz, but I would have to increase the voltage from the default 1.5v. However, since I am still on stock cooling, I am reluctant to increase it.

Do you think I could push it to 3Ghz stably, or should I pick up a good P4 s478 cooler? What is the best air s478 cooler out there?

I go t an Alpha 8942 for mine just because I have used Alpha HS for quite a few OC over the years. The only trouble is that you must remove the mainboard everytime you want to change or re-install the CPU-PITA.
I hear that Swiftech makes a good OC HS for P4s, I can't remember the number but do a search, there are 2 similar one, one is all Cu and the other Cu and Al.
That being said these 2.4c really are great little chips.
I got a Costa 3318 that did 250 FSB (3.0G) right out of the box at default 1.52 vcore-I ran it like that for 2 weeks and just bumped it up to 260 FSB(3.1G) still at default and stable.
I like to bump the FSB up 10Mhz and run my normal stuff for a week or 2 then try for more. Eventually hoping for 275FSB+ with under 1.6vcore.

Just fired up two instances of Prime95, started the Torture test with the blended test option.

It does complete 3dm2k1 and 2k3 without a hitch tho.

A good way to find the limits of your cpu is by setting the fsb:memory ratio in the bios. This way you can be sure that your are finding the limits of your cpu only. Additionally, you won't be limited by your ram. After you find the limits of your cpu, you can find the limits of your memory. Then you will have the best settings.

What mobo and memory are you running? Most of these 2.4C's are running 3.1-3.4 on stock air cooling. I have two systems with crappy Costa Rica chips that are doing 3.1 and 3.2 on 1.575vcore. Using Corsair PC3500C2 @ (2-2-2-5) on one and HyperX PC3500 CL2 (2-2-2-5) on the other.

If the XMS is the PC3200C2, give it 2.8vdimm. If it is the PC3200LL, you may have problems with that board. Many ppl have reported problems with the Corsair LL ram but if you use the manual settings with 2.8v then that should fix it. I assume that you are running 5:4 at 250fsb and MAM is set to Auto.
