I got my 1st pay check today which reflects my new raise

The government needs that $1200 to maintain the road in front of your house so people can park there for festivals.

You realize that you haven't given us near enough information to determine the impact that your raise had on your taxes, right?

I think it is safe to say that at least half (probably closer to 3/4) the taxes don't contribute to society in any meaningful way.

oh at least. More like 3/4 when you figure in how much goes into just managing the money. How much money do we spend on "studies" that don't do anything? I wish I still had the article about the guy who got pissed at his local government because they had spent years and hundreds of thousands of dollars "studying" how to fix a road. He finally got sick of it and spent something like a couple grand and a weekend fixing it.

I remember when I figured out I paid more(far more) than $10/day in federal income tax alone. 80% of the people in the world live on less than $10/day

If you make more than like $14/hr, you're paying at least $10/day in federal income tax 🙄

I got a $5,000 paycheck the other day (lot of overtime, working during a holiday/couple Sundays etc) and I got $2,800 in my bank. I normally don't look at the gross value, I just look at what goes in the bank, since $2,800 was awesome compared to the ~$1,500 I normally get, but I had to look at that damn value. It's like a kick in the balls. I checked what my next pay will be and it's $2,000. This short staff thing is kinda nice because of the overtime. Need to pay off that credit line.

I have nothing against taxes BTW, what I do have something against is when they take away all this money and somehow still complain they don't have enough and go in debt.
